First time poster here. I played EVE once before a while ago and stuck mostly to mining and agent missions and never really got too serious.
This time around I plan on doing some PVPing (since a few of my freinds have started playing) so I've been reading the forums checking out other peoples setups and whatnot and I realize Im way off.
My setup is: 2 Heavy Launchers with Thunderbolts and Havocs. 3 Assault Launchers with Bloodclaws for taking out smaller ships. 2 D150mm or 250mm (depending on what size of ships im anticipating) with AM or Plutonium.
2 Large Extenders (6125 total shield hp) 1 Drive Disruptor 1 Warp Scrambler (this is currently swapped out for another large extender for fighting npcs) 1 50%EM Shield Hardener
Sensor boosters in all the lows because I was getting target jammed all the time (which never happens now)
This setup was working wonders until recently. Fighting against npcs I seem to do much lower damage than I should and I haven't pvped with it yet because Im afraid im gonna get pwned. Ive read some other Ferox builds and none of them even come close to mine. F.Ex: no one seems to be using shield extenders, and everyone seems to like nosferatus. I know from watching a couple videos and listening to in game cha that energy sappers are really powrful but im confused as to why. When Im playing I never use my cap. Im assuming that's my first big problem =P But other people are able to take Feroxs into Lvl3 missions and Im having some trouble with the tougher Lvl2 missions.
What am I missing?

Edited by: Mutiny1 on 12/01/2006 01:39:36 Train those missile skills up and youll find that you get alot more damage. If you already have missile skils fairly high try puting a target painter on....if that doesnt help you have a ****ed up ferox _______________ "Im just a guy with a low security status...that doesnt mean im a pirate it just means concord hates me!" |

Should I be running the two extenders though? I feel like having 2 large extenders is a n00b mistake since I almost never see them in people builds. The only 'rox builds I've seen have had either no extenders at all or 1 medium.
Maybe I just need another hardener?

My recommendation:
5x Heavy launchers(the faster the better) 2x med NOS or if you really dont like nos 2x Rails or blasters depending on what you will be fighting.
2x invul field 2's (if you havent got the skills 1's will do fine) 2x t2(or best named) Large shield extenders now the last slot is debatable. If you are using NOS and are pretty sure you'll be fighting up close an personal id take a t2 med shield booster. If you cant run a T2 dont bother with a booster. Either an AB/MWD simply for getting away if using rails or getting in close to nos/blaster.
4x PDS (t1's are fine t2's are obviousl preferable)
a slightly different mid/low:
2x t2 invul field's 3x t2 large extenders
2x PDS 2x SPR
Dont bother so much with this one if you cant run the gear and dont have reasonable - good energy management/shield skills.
A Passive tank in a ferox is better then in anyother ship (except command ships) because it has the same recharge time as a cruiser for a hell of alot more hp's which means major shield recharges at peak. With the total passive setup you'll have around 12k shield hp's and regen around 70hp's/sec at peak recharge. Not to mention pretty good resist's
The reason for not bothering with light missiles is simply because heavies will do enough. The NOS in the pure(ish) passive setup will help cripple the enemy's cap or if you are being vamp'd and you time it right you can power your invuls purely from the nos.
The last thing i will say is this. If you really want to PvP in it make sure u have the skills and the equip. Its not as bad as some but its getting into the realms of being costly to replace. If you are there for pure dmg and can stay in the background get a caracal you'll do more dmg and it doesnt cost as much if it all goes wrong.

Cool, thanks for the advice. Something Im still curious about, though, is why people use nos (im assuming you mean nosferatus) so much. Since extenders don't actaully cost any energy to keep active, using a nosferatu against a ship which relys on extenders for defense wouldn't work, right? If someone were to use a nos against me, the EM hardener would obviously go offline, but all the equipment which is on all the time (like the extenders and weapons) would be unaffected. Or would they in fact go off? If draining someones cap causes their weapons to go offline then I see why you would want to do so in PvP.
PS: The post above is as gf's character, I just forgot to select this one in the dropdown =P

Yes you can take ppl's weapons offline. In regards to the passive tank, as you already said not many people will use them and it only works really well for Shields. so if you use NOS against someone that runs an armor tank with a rep you will cripple their tank.

My setup:
5 Heavy Launchers 2 Medium Beams
2 T2 Large Shield Extends 3 50% Shield hardeners
2 T2 PDU 2 Shield Power Relays
Drones.
Handles all the pre-RMR mission, haven't had any of the new ones yet.

There's a great thread a few pages back about lvl 3 mission setups, also with some good pvp ideas

I love my Ferox. I run 2 setups, 1 passive and 1 active tank. The passive I find is better. However, I use the active when belt hunting in lowsec, for some reason I think it would work best if a player attacks me (hasn't happened yet).
For the passive, it runs ALL L3 missions (including the new ones, even TS3 - before the patch I could do it, but with GREAT care and some warping).
5X Arb Heavies 2x Small Rails (usually 125 or 150mm proto) 3x Large T2 Shield Ext 2x T2 Invul Hardeners 2x Shield Power Relay 2x BCU
This sup works like a charm. People call it the "lazy man's boat", since you don't do much but turn the hardners on. It's slow, but it's so damn effective.
I used the active setup which is:
5 Arb Heavies 2x Med Nos 1 Med Shield Booster, 1 Shield Booster, 1 10MN AB, 2 T2 Invuln Fields 1 Damage Control 2 BCU 1 PDS
Works well, but more activating of stuff.
These are fairly expensive setups, as everything I use is T2 (where applicable).
