Il make this as short as I can, no more than 2 pages :D
But seriously Its time I Quit Eve. I have no isk or assets left and Ive been in the game for over 2 years. Its obvious I have brought all the bad reputation and lack of assets on myself whether it was on purpose or not. The last good friend I had the other day refused to talk to me because of certain paths I took ingame (pirating).
Eve has become an addiction for me to esscape a very shtty reality. In consequence of this my real life is suffering and has been for a while. Its gotten so bad I have no choice at this point. I have to stop being on the computer for 10 hours a day and start fixing things in my life.
I know most of you will be happy to see me go, most of you know me as a wanna be pirate, isk begger or escrow scammer. Sadly thats the legacy I left for myself in eve after over 2 years of playing it.
I will not be coming back this time.
Just wanted to aplogize to all the people that I offended, upset, greifed, scammed, and turned my back on. I will miss some of you.
Eve has been a interesting expereince in my life but has also nearly destroyed it, and like a drug addcition it needs to be stoppped cold turkey. I have already stopped paying my subscription to eve and it in the next few hours will be deleted form my hard drive.
Just hopefuly I can leave one single piece of advice behind before I go,
"Dont let Eve become more important than your real life, dont start neglecting your real life for anything in eve it will come back and haunt you eventualy."
Good Bye Everyone, ED out

If you wanted to go out "well"...should have sold your char for Isk (2 years of SP?) and given some Isk to all the people you believe hate you.
But you are sooo right. I gave up MMORPGs for 2 years (actually disconnected myself from the Net) because I got too addicted to DAoC.
Now my time is limited, and that's the best thing.

Sorry to jump on the opportunity like a vulture on a carcass, but would you be willing to give your character away since apparently you're not going to sell it? I'd gladly pay for the transfer fee.
I guess "no" is the answer but no harm in asking, eh?

Luckily, I have a great and hot gf in RL to keep me busy..but she started playing eve so hopefully that wont pull us in like it did you. I'm coming from FFXI where I got very addicted, especially to the crafting system, and eve is not as intense a passion, but still addictive!

Of corse you don't understand, it's easy to tell by your post. Being addicted to something doens't need to involve drugs or anything like that, the addiction comes from the chemicals released in the brain when you do something you enjoy (endorfins-spelling?), he most likely got addicted to that (it's more common that you would know), people on this planet get addicted to anything and everything (even people out there who get addicted to stealing, aswell as people who are addicted to chrsitmas ). If anyone is weak minded it's actully you, the reasoning for this?, you fail to comprehend how easy it is to become addicted to something, and if you actully take the time to read his post, he doesn't balme eve at all, he blames himself (the first step to admitting he has a problem).
People like you make the rest of the human species look bad, you have no feelings for you fellow man, your the type who will kick a person at there lowest, to me your worse than that jammy stuff that gets in your toes.

Normally we don't allow quit threads, but in your case I will make an exception. Not because I think you are a great guy, but because this is an important message.
The internet, online gaming and so on can be a great thing, but it can also ruin your life. I'm quite frankly forced to shut down the forums from time to time because I tend to get very angry at posts where the poster goes on as if this was the real world and his or her issue is the only thing that matters. There is a life outside computers, but sadly people are starting to forget how to meet others in the real world and in some cases, like yours, their internet life takes over completely. I would suggest that anyone who starts to feel they're getting really angry about posts or in game events immediately shuts off their computer and go take a walk, spend time with friends or family or do whatever you can think of that isn't electronic.
While I am sad to see a person leave us, I do think you're doing whats best. And I do think more people here should maybe do what you are doing, or at least take more breaks from their online and gaming lives, for their own good.
Good luck!

Women are really good at showing men what's important in life. Or they're good at makign themselfs the center of your attention, something like that anyway.
Lets just keep it at: Women are really good at making you believe that THEY are the most important thing in your life and the center of your universe. Foolishly you believe them because your brain is temporarily cut off from bloodcirculation to other body parts.
I control my EVE addiction by abiding this rule: two things are more important than EVE...
1) Friends (may include familie members that you like, annoying uncles and hated ex wives/gf's don't count)
2) Money (no not isk, but that real stuff that pays your REAL bills)
If you have and can maintain those two things... EVE all you want, if not => unplug, remove head and fingers from anus and fix |

ED, it's sad to see it come to this. Most never took the time to get to know you (which is a shame, considering this is an online game that depends upon social interaction), but I thought you were a decent enough person..at least in my interactions with you. True, you were a bit misguided in your gameplay, (and I know the mitigating circumstances as to what led you to play the game the way you did)...but, hey, it was your money, after all
At any rate, get your life squared away mate...good luck in whatever issues you have to deal with.

Good luck with resolving your problems, It takes a brave man to realise and admit he has a problem, and it is also half the battle to do so.
Once you accept it, you can start to help yourself to get back on track.
As Wrangly-Poos said, it is sad to see someone leave the community.

But i am not as strong as you i think as my will power is only at level 1.
Theres no hate-mail for quiting for Real-Life Issues and posting about it. it's when you get the people who are quiting becuase they got blown up by concord on thier first day. or they found out that CCP has the right to delete your character after 6 months.

I was asked to reconsider my choice by people I respect, both players and employees of CCP. My position was one of protest, not a tantrum. It wasn't even over something that effected me directly, it was a matter of principle. The issue was resolved in the fairest way possible. I extended my account until March by buying game time for ISK, so I never actually compromised my position (which was one of funding a company who's actions went against my principles). As the situation is now resolved, and CCP's stance has changed, I have no issues with supporting them, and do so whole heartedly.
Now that I have clarified my position can we kindly get back on topic?
I really hope the OP manages to resolve his RL issues. Life is a wonderful thing. Eve can be a second life, but should never become more than that. ______________________________________________

Quote: The guy knows he has a problem, and is doing something about it, lighten up.
yes but you can still show some respect avon..im sure you would be frothing at the mouth if people started making light at any difficulties you or a friend of yours may have (such as "quitting" over a corp name change?)the reason this thread has been left up here is simply to point out the dangeours of internet addiciton and taking the game and everything else on the net seriously..this is becoming a larger and larger problem in society as the net becomes more accessible (just look at some of the problems in asia..such a one gamer killing another over selling some of his loot)..having jokes made over it, does not help the message getting across. _____

Great post and smart choice.
If I may lend some advice to you before you go...
This is a game, first and foremost. I am sad that you had to stop playing a game, which should be for entertainment value. The inflation and greed that has inflitrated the economy has perverted the game value and has turned this into an obsession like you have described it.
I hope one day you are able to find a balance between Real Life and Entertainment. Because with some guidance, you can limit your game time and still have fun.
Perhasp seek counselling for game addiction and take a break from EVE, but DO NOT DELETE YOUR CHARACTER. I can assure you that there are many anti social people in this game who dont care about your personal problems.
I care, and I understand. In game characters are just that...FANTASY. Pirating is a fun way to play, dont worry about that. This is a game, this ISK is NOT REAL.
PLEASE DONT WORRY ABOUT WHAT YOU DID IN EVE. If it doesnt violate the rules, than it is acceptable, regardless what anyone tells you.
Take Care and Best Luck in the Future. I hope to see you back in the game, playing in moderation, and having fun too.

Wait a sec... what does this mean?
Is this like one of those things when you're feeling a certain way and all of a sudden everything around you is about what's going on in your life, songs on the radio, signs in the street, TV shows, etc?
So you mean it's addiction that makes me try to kill everyone I meet? And I should take a break?
If I do that, there's nothing else I can do to keep away from the boredom then :( It's bad enough I'm forced to leave. What am I gonna do?

GL with improving your RL play.
I had a buddy who dropped 4 years of his life into EQ, and when he quit, I told him that a great way to wean off the game was to find real world goals and apply to them the same philosophy as you would in game. Lose 5 pounds, save $200, wash/wax the car, etc. Then get more ambitious, like go back to school, get a certification, improve work, go on vacation, etc. Real life success can be far more addicting than MMO success, it just doesn't have cool graphics and l33t speak, so it doesn't get as much fanfare.
Entertainment is a wonderful thing, but nothing is as fun as success in life. Again, start small, grind away, and see how fun it becomes.
All the best.

Good Bye Everyone, ED out
How true is this. The irony is that CCP have developed a game so good that many of us would rather turn our backs on friends, family and loved ones in order to live out a virtual lifestyle that we only dreamed possible when we were children.
I remember playing Elite as a kid and thinking 'if only they were real people I was shooting at'.
Sometimes we have to face up to the addictive nature of our 'problem solving' mentality and take a real break to see what life has to offer.
I've never met you but I understand where you're coming from. Take care and good luck ED.

Bye ED
I think you have to give yourself more time than just 4 days for your life to balance out, it can take awhile but you'll fell beter about yourself when it happens. I hate to see you leave the game, you were one of the pretty cool people that I knew from my adventures in Syndicate, and I know some other people that'll probably miss you too.
If you do decide to come back to EvE look me up, I'll try to help you get back up on your feet. If you don't come back, Enjoy the rest of your life. Remember, You only get one; so try to have some fun while you live it.
