I have an Idea about research.
Everyone knows it's a lottery and also everyone knows that if you get a good bpo from it, your game life can turn from Rags to riches.
But here's the thing. You can set up a research agent and walk away from it and never go within 100 jumps of the agent and next thing you know you have a bpo.
Why is this, well 2 things.
1) the systems is a lottery so aslong as you have Rp you have a chance of gettting a bp in your research field.
2) you get Rp just by starting up with the agent.
So now lets look at other types of Agents..Combat for example. If you want to get that nice shiny new Fraction ship, or a Implant. You have to do missions and have to do alot of missions. You can't just start up with the agent then fly away and a year l8r hope you get lucky with a lottery and next thing you know you have a fraction ship.
So here's the idea.
Make research agents like the others. (except for the reward part)
Make it so that you do NOT get Rp just by having research with the agent. To get Rp you HAVE to do missions for the agent.
But to balance it out because your not getting a set ammount of Rp each day, give twice as much Rp from a mission and maybe even allow the agent runners to do missions 2 or more times a day.
And leave the rewards still givin out in a lottery style.
This will remove thousands possably millions of Rp from the lottery every day. Leaving only the ppl who really want a BPO and are willing to do the effort to get it.
Now you say how is this fair to the ppl in 0.0?
Well if ccp wants maybe they can throw a few "fraction" research agents in 0.0 (who don't nessarely give out fraction BPO's or whatever but still research in the same fields as empire agents) -----------------------------------------------

Or maybe just hand out a couple of run bpc?

Poor :V:
Also, it would be more fair if research missions gave X4-X8 more RP than they do now and passive RP gain was decreased.

maybe i'm misremembering, but what i recall is that the problem you outlined doesn't exist because the lottery actually resets everytime it is won. when i started playing the game i figured that i could eventually get everything i wanted in the game by application of time and energy, rather than joining an uberguild and 'raiding' like other mmorpgs. but then i found out from reading the forums that not only is the lottery rigged in handing out only so many tech ii bpos (20 of each or something, right?) but that the way it works is misrepresented [possibly through translation?] like so many other things (learning skill, for instance) and that the research points you earn don't accumulate over time.
so i curse my int being 8 points higher than the rest of my skills and train up combat like a good little gamer :( at least when d&d online comes out i'll know what benefits the stats yield. if i can get high-end eqwipment without spending 4-hour blocks of time every day i'll stay there instead of here.

No, he dosen't make sence. I don't think anyone makes sence.
But he does make sense. Fractions are a part of math. You wanted fraction ships, so he wants one too. I myself would rather have a faction ship.

Isn't one of the major advantages in eve that you really don't HAVE to spend 23h per day to get something? This is not wow, where you are most sucessfully, if you are a person without work or social live.
I guess the next demand will be, that it is unfair, that YOU spend a lot of hours playing and there are others out there, that just go online now and then and they have a lot more skill points than you.
"I'm playing 23h a day and get exactly the same amount of skillpoints per day as THIS one, that is only checking once a day. That is really unfair."....
:-( Way too much whiners on this board i guess...

In other words... only agent runners get to research tech 2, right?
I have another suggestion.
You get RPs for every ship you kill in low sec (illegally), based on its ISK value. This way, only pirates will be able to do research! -- Proud member of the [23].

... uhm. You can actually make missions for your research agent. It's one mission per day if i recall right, and if you complete it, you get reward of daily research point gain.
So, doing missions for your agent can significantly increase your chance to score a BPO, versus these who can't be bothered. (since you can have up to 2x as much points as someone who started at the same time but skipped doing these missions) ... it's just not mandatory, which is a Good Thing(tm)

It's even better than that, you get twice the chance at each draw if you do all the missions...
AND, the best bpo are those dropped later compared to the first one. Getting bpo now even remove the need for the tech 1 items. So thoses that did'nt win anything will win big when they do. And since everything is reset to 0 when you win and take it, there is no reason to whine.
The lottery is the best way to keep everyone equal, whatever the eve-gaming-style. Like the skills system in fact. |

Then again why is there only 2 of each shiptypes of tech II when there's 4 or more of their tech I equivalents?
More tech II frigates!

My opinion has always been that when you do research with a corporations research agents you should have a decent shot at getting blueprint copies for products of that company, and every so rarely an original (for massive amounts of RP). Thus, if you want a Khanid ship blueprint, you do starship research for a Khanid agent (though why anyone would want a Khanid ship, I don't know). ---------------------------------- "Out ride the sons of Terra, Far Drives the thundring jet, Up leaps the race of Earthmen, Out, far, and onward yet-" |

Doubling your own chance is hardly a significiant boost in the scale of things and the Research Missions not being mandatory is certainly not a good thing either.
