I'm cruising through the level 2 missions.
I'm not seeing any specific changes to Tech Secrets other than part 2 doesn't involve a huge trek (thankfully!), but I've now got my ship eq and tactics down to a T.
I warp in at 15KM, turn all my modules on and FSU until everything is dead, then I warp out :P
Tech secrets 3 is more of the same, but harder.
But my battlecruiser has the cap to handle it, that and armor hardeners now that I have hull upgrades 4.
What I struggle with is Interceptors.
I can't hit them, full stop.
I can maybe get one or two hits in as they MWD to me, but once they've got me, even webbed I can't scratch the little blighters. I've now got 3 drones, but since I've got a grand total of 3 levels in drone skills I'm not really up to much with drones.
I'm flying a Prophecy, I have around 450K skillpoints - very low I know - but I seem to be progressing well :)
I've got 5 lasers and a nos in hislots. An AB, cap recharger and a webber in medslots. And in loslots I have 2 cap relays, 2 hardeners, a heatsink and a med armor repairer.
As you expect with 455K skillpoints I don't have a lot of depth there...
But I can't handle Gallente Navy Delta II Support Frigates..
Any advice?

Here's my ideas - I've no idea if any will work.
Use 2 webbers on each delta...do they stack?
Use 3 nos and see if I drain a Delta dry it'll slow down.
Forget the mission (my agent keeps offering it though) until I have my drone skills up and hope the drones can take them.
Switch back to small charge lasers and see if that helps.
Learn some launcher skills and try whatever projectiles track the fastest.
No idea if any of these would be successful though.

Those little guys can be very hard to hit. What I did was throw a few light combat drones on and they kill the inty's pretty fast. My medium and hvy drones just couldnt hit em, but the light drones are small and fast, thus they can catch and hit the inty...it took a min or so each but the light drones killed off both inty's for me.
Give it a try and see how you fare

Edited by: Stamm on 13/01/2006 23:05:05 I've got 2 light drones I could send on them...
I have sentry drones 1 and drones 2... that's my lot as far as drone skills go.
I'm limited to 25m3 of dronebay space - which is the max I could use for light scouts anyway.
Will 2 drones be enough to dent them? I'm reluctant to try the mission again, past two times I've taken a Corp member with me, the first time so I could see what the mission was like without flying back in a pod, and the second time because I knew I couldn't handle the interceptors. I've refused it a few times since, but I just refused it, did a mission and it was offered again, so unless I want to fly to a new base and work for an agent with half the effective quality, or drop influence, then I have to take this one on tonight, or do no missions...

I kill them in a cruiser with 4 Hammerhead Is. Piece of cake. They take a while to go down, but that shouldn't be an issue in a BC. Get drones up to 4, have a bunch of hammerheads and you'll do just fine.

aye i agree. 2 drones prolly wont outdmg their tanking, but 4 will. Drones are very powerful now. I use 5 light ones for inty control solely and they make short work of inties. It does help the drones to hit if you web them, but you dont have to.
My strategy is use my turrets on the inties until they alter their flight path and begin to orbit...this is usually around 11-10km. after that release the drones and change targets to the next

Looks like I _need_ those drone skills then.
I was trying to hold off on any skills at all until I get my advanced learning skills to level 4 - I've not even got the basic learning skills to level 4 :(
But it seems that since I'll be doing level 2 missions, I'll need to get _something_ to handle the interceptors.
Are drones the only way?

You might want to drop down to the 'duramaller' set up.
It's a maller with frigate guns and a 800 or 1600mm plate.
It has a lot of pros for it.
One of the pros is that the frigate guns have naturally good tracking, so therefore you can pop frigates and spider drones...
Failing that, take your prophecy and put 2 small frigate gun pulses or 2 dual light beams. That with a webber will stop all small ships.
So, what you are doing is conceiving of your ship as a world war II heavy cruiser, which mounted 8inch cruiser guns but also smaller 5inch destroyer guns so it could engage effectively smaller craft and also some airplanes.

Throw on a couple of frigate sized small pulse lasers, they'll eat any inties or drones you get in conjuction with your webber and drones...(That's what I did, never had any trouble with it either.)

Yes they do stack and no you dont necessarily need drones to kill frigs under 10km. You need a minimum of 2 webbers tho,the stronger the better, apply both webbs to frig and layeth down the smack :) I will say though you have to be at a complete standstill to hit well with laser, but this is usually the case anyway being webbed. There is also a nice side benefit to having 2 webbers,in that you can seperately webb up 2 individual frigs for your drones to kill if your cap is running a bit low,as they take the place of cap rech'.

A single webber is enough if you use a 90% one. That investment is really worth it. Even if the numbers might not tell it at first glance, a 90% webber is twice as good as an 80% one (10% of top speed as opposed to 20% of top speed for the enemy). And once theyre webbed, either approach them or (usually better) move away from them to keep the transversal low. Then at least I hit inties with weapons that have tracking down to about 0.05 (the more the merrier of course, I slaughter inties that way using battleship weapons and tracking computers).

I'm flying Brutix with 200mm hybrid guns and in normal combat can't hit interceptors. I'm using 2 webbers in missions, so my medium guns hit those fast frigs and drones every time. With 1 webber couldn't hit them when they are orbiting me.

Edited by: Winter Solstice on 16/01/2006 22:49:33 I fly a Cyclone, and one of my hardpoints is an 'Arbalest' rocket launcher.
This little bugger spits out defenders against cruisers, and spits out rockets (on switch) against tackler frigs/ceptors/drones at a very high ROF.
I use rockets in conjunction with 1x90% webber, 1x30% painter, 3x med, and 2x light drones as my mission point defense system. The painter is fantastic, I can even slap incoming MWD tacklers with my 720's starting at about 30-40km out.
Works very well so far in dealing with 1-6 tackling opponents.

A trick I have had to employ with the Spider drones especially and also with intys is when you have them webbed you look at the direction they are flying and keep trying to match their direction to keep the transversal down.....A few well aimed shots brings them down once you can slow them relatively.
The Capacitor is empty. |

I had trouble with Human Cattle 4/5, same issue until I reconfigured my Thorax into
3x250mm Rails 2x150mm Rails
Hammerhead drones
The 150mm Rails will hit the inty when webbed by a basic webber. Load them with plutonium/AM since it's orbiting in range anyway and wait for it to pop.
With lasers I guess you'd get a small laser with multifrequency crystal or something (short range lots of damage).

AFAIK Painters don't affect MWD-ing ships signature as long as the MWD is running.

Just an update here.
I now run 4 of the biggest medium charge lasers and 2 of the biggest small charge lasers.
Rather than 2 of the biggest medium charge lasers and 3 middle of the road medium charge lasers (I hadn't got another laser since I moved from the Maller at that point).
I also have 3 drones, which I'll use the hammerheads for Gallente missions.
I kill those Gallente ships very slowly, but without any problems. Generally my small lasers are hitting them, with drones, while my bigger lasers are chomping on another target.
