Okay, I'm getting sick and tired of the amount of aolese I've been seeing recently. I don't get why people can't take the extra fraction of a second it takes to type out the whole word. If you're a good typist you shouldn't even be doing that! It makes you look like an idiot and it makes me want to scream. You know the language, so use it correctly. On the flip, there are a lot of people who do speak well, especially when I'm flying through newbie systems and all the newbies are speaking to each other in full words and sentences. It makes me so proud, I want to adopt them and make them all my little childrens....

I mean I guess here's the biggest thing about it for me.
For me, seeing the occasional "orly" makes me laugh. When someone says "hey dis r bank yo" makes me laugh, when used sparingly and if it's in a good place to be funny. Seeing "r u there" is retarded. It's something that should be used and taken in moderation, but I don't want to be swimming in it. When someone talks with the aolness it is visually frustrating and just plain irritating. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't have be pulling my hair out by using it ALL THE TIME, have me laugh when you drop it once in a while when the situation permits, k?

James Lyrus put it pretty well in a similar thread - if you can't be bothered to spell correctly, you're just showing that you value your own time above everybody elses. It might be quicker for you to type, but it's slower for everybody else to read.

While I personally very often discriminate against
people who for one reason or another bastardize the English language;
I do believe that firstly, people can express themselves how ever the **** they wish.
And secondly, the way a person types does not, by any means,
account for their intelligence or lack thereof.
And i realize that it makes me a hypocrite, not that i care.

The simple solution is not to read stuff that is typed like that. In my case im usally talking on TS and I am o laz'y to type full coherent sentences. It is not like you dont understand it. For the most part you don't even notice it unless you are on some gripe tangent and have nothing better to do for the time being.

Without EVE jargon and leetspeak, it comes out not only even more rediculous but it sounds anti-semetic and politically extreme, in addition to some form of VD. Like you sell Jews as slaves and shoot Republicans on-sight, as well as smashing symptoms of venereal diseases with small stones.

Look, I love words, any word.
As long as any sentence contains less then five full spelling or grammatical errors I consirder it a win, 'cuase i'm not native to the language.
However, full aolness makes we cry, harshly.
I love to peruse the help channel, or noobcorp corpchats when i happen to be in one. Dispensing knowledge in a game like Eve does more good then dispensing isk by the millions will ever do.
Yet, I will make my errors, liek anyone typing more then is good for him without any actual education to serve him while doing it. The becomes teh, greatness becomes teh uber leet. And voctpry becomes pwnage.
It is the way of teh intarweb I guess. While it makes you illiterate on one hand, it enriches your knowledge and vocabulary on the other, always giving and taking at the same time.
That's why I love forums.

I want to stab everyone who says "u" and "ur" in the face with a soldering iron. This seems to include almost every german and italian I've ever met. I think the worst case I've ever experienced with this was in the first manual for The Specialists mod in Half-Life. How can anyone as stupid as not being able to type "you" or "your" in a formal document be given that task to begin with? Go back to the 80's music videos, you unworthy organic composts!

Better than anything else I could've said. The irony with leetspeak is that the current batch of practitioners do it for two primary reasons:
- To stand out, to be different
- To annoy those who look down upon them
They are most definitely no different then everyone else in their little speech clique. So where as in the first case they are trying to stand out they simply conform with their own kind... standing out not at all except for their momentary annoyance value.
This leads to number two. It annoys you. And doing it, especially in a thread complaining about it, is a free "troll you" card. With doing nothing more than speaking like they are not "huked on fonix" they disrupt your day.
No risk, all gain.
My parents did it to their parents. I did it to mine. My children did it to me. And shortly I fear my grandchildren will be doing it to my children.
So, in the end, not standing out at all. Not any different. Just annoying... and to their pleasure out our displeasure.

I agree, but it depends ofcourse. In a serious discussion I think correct english is very important. It is much easier to read, and makes the poster think longer about his post.

The kids and the wannabe "Elites" think it makes them look cool. But to the majority of Eve players, who on average are older than most "mainstream" gamers, it just makes them look idiotic.
It's also usually a dead givaway that the player is a kid and can be wtfpwn3d pretty easily.
