Okay, not sure why but I get a good bit of lag in this game, my rig isn't top line but for when this game came out it should be able to run it fine.
P4 2.8 gig with HT ATI 9800 pro 256mb 1 gig of Corsair XMS Audicgy ZS sound card
Again not the top notch by today's standards but decent I would think. So I wouldn't think I'd be getting the slow downs that I'm getting. I turned off the sound and that seemed to help a good bit but there don't seem to be any other options that you can adjust that would help ease the load any. I really don't like plaing w/o sound though, I mean the backround music I could do w/o but the sound effects for weapons and what not I kind of like to have so I don't want to have to keep the sound off forever.
Are there any tweaks I can make to try and improve this? Is it possible to have the sound effects but keep the background sound shut off? Not muted but completely off so it's not using resources?
Thanks in advance!

Edited by: Mogz on 14/01/2006 08:19:46 I play EVE on my slower system which is:
Athlon 2800+ (2.1ghz) ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb 1gig (2x 512mb) OCZ Onboard sound
The game runs fine. Either something is wacked out with your system bro, or the lag you're getting is internet based. Are you running the game on dialup? You can hop in to the menu of EVE (by hitting escape) and tinkering with the options there, including the ability to shut off aspects of sound. However as I mentioned i'm running a similar setup to you for EVE and the game runs flawlessly with all the options set to high.

Best way to fight lag is to grief the noobs until they quit. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

I didn't understand anything about that post...perhaps it was all the bastardization of the English language

No, rig is fine and I have a cable connection, where is this game based? Is this a UK company, I see there mirrors for patching are in UK and stuff, maybe it's b/c I'm in the US?
I dunno, I see others saying they get bad lag too, I mean I just sometimes get stuck for long minutes when I use warp gates or go in and out of stations and it really makes you not even want to play. Also I'll get lag in combat animations, where the visuals show well after the action has occured, things like that. With my sound shut off it's got a lot better, only light lag but with sound on it gets real bad, after I restart the game it's okay for a little bit then messes up again, annoying. :)
Also been getting some bugs, like the other day, whenever I'd load somewhere, my entire UI would reset to defaults and restart me on the tutorials, took me multiple reboots of the whole game to get that to clear up.

Sounds like you may have a bad download of the game. Have you tried to reinstall it?

EVE is based out of Reykjavik Iceland, but I think they've got some servers or something or other in Britain. Being across the pond shouldn't make that big a difference bud, this is the digital age. Besides, i'm in Canada and have no problems.
That all said i'm inclined to suggest the same as Jacyro already has. Your install may be borked. Get some holy water and a priest and exorcise your system. If you're not a thiest, try taking a ball peen hammer and wailing a hole in the side of your computer case. Next take a philips head (this is important) screwdriver and insert it in the hole. Rotate it counter-clockwise, don't mind the crunching that's just the hardware realigning itself. Next take a litre of gasoline and pour it in the gap you've pummeled in your rig. Light a match and drop it in the aforementioned hole. After the initial fireball subsides, quickly extinguish the flame. Lastly, call Intel and tell them your chipset exploded on you and you demand repirations.
P.S. No seriously, try reinstalling mate

I'm also in the States and have no issue save for the horrendous lag that occurs when you find yourself on a node/in a system with 700+ other people.
I'm just backing up Mogz and Jacyo here. :)

Well when you say bad install, should I uninstall and redownload the client again, or just uninstall then reinstall with the client I downloaded the first time? I didn't get any errors or anyting on my installation, I mean I had to install the game like 3 or 4 times at first just to get all the errors gone but on the last try it all went smoothly....maybe I'll give it one more reinstall though, thanks.

Edited by: Daracon on 15/01/2006 04:27:08 if it didnt install smoothly the first time and had errors, then the client you downloaded sounds like it was bust, best to download it again, or you will get the same bugs

Not sure if this will help but I was having some weird graphics lag until I disabled a few processes in Task Manager. Most processes aren't a problem but there are a lot of programs now with auto-updaters that periodically check their respective servers to see if there's an upgrade. When they do they tie up bandwidth while they check. With them tuned off everything's fine for me. Anyhow it might be worth a try.
