I've flown dozens of extraveganzas and pretty much every other lvl 3 mission there is, mainly in my cyclone, but now in my tempest. This mission was new to me, and frankly im shocked by the damage output there is. Even using 2x kin, 2x therm hardeners, the rats do too much damage to me and im forced to warp out. And this is a mission that pays half as much isk and LP as some missions, and 30% of small armory etc.
Any other people run into this ?

Not sure which version I saw (lvl2 or lvl3) but this mission has changed either with RMR or the most recent patch. It used to be a Real Space mission. Now its one of these "deadspace but not deadspace" missions with much more firepower than before. You could try the trick of warping in with a shuttle bookmarking and then warping to that bookmark (check that it works with the shuttle!).
I can understand the need of the devs to have a system that allows them to build missions "from a kit" but these new missions not allowing ranged warping from the mission bookmark and having frankly mad instant aggro's is a little much.

Yeah .. i ahte the deadspace but not thing. The problem is that its timed from when you arrive to the convoy arriving , so you need a long range set-up to slap the sentries, but do it FAST. Its a toughie.

Had this one as a level 3 against the Serps 4 times. I fly a T2 125mm Rail/Rocket Enyo with thermal hardeners, AM/Thermal Rockets.
It's not too much of a problem but you have to get the turrets and the station guards taken out quick before the convoy arrives...
Warp in AB to the closest turret, taking out the two rocket frigs on the way. Orbit at 5km and demolish the turret, it's a hard nut but eventually goes down. Move to the next turret and repeat. The convoy usually gets there just before the last turret goes so I tank their incomming fire till its destroyed.
The two webber frigs in the convoy escort have to go first, so if you have the armour left to take the dammage engage them if not now's the time to warp out and repair (I normally do just to replemish the shields, not that Enyo's have much of a shield but I if they are at full the next engagement dosen't even get me into armour). Warp back and clean up the webbers and cruiser escorts (AB on, orbit at 5km and reduce to scrap).
I find that it's the turrets that do the dammage, and they arn't soft (take quire a few rounds to kill) once they are out of the way the rest of its easy...

Pre-latest patch it was in normal space, at L3 the spawn was one hauler and around 4 cruisers/frigs.
So last night I took my PVP-setup Zealot to play with the rats. Warped to bookmark, shields went down in two salvos. So I warped out and returned in my Sacrilege, which owned the mission.
However. This is the first time I have ever seen L3 mission rats manage to complete multiple repair cycles before I kill them. Normally they only repair once if they are lucky. This time, it was almost as if they were trying to tank me.

Think I did that mission, doing another level 3 mission where i have to recover some station data from a rendez-vous point... now THIS missions is rediculous. Just lost my scoprion battleship that ive had for months undefeated.
Warp to deadspace gate, warp to mission target, 4 light missile turrets, about 8 crusiers, gurrista infernos, murderes etc, about another 8 frigates. There are target jammer ships in this bunch that work even with ECCM boosters on my ship. Eventually cleared it after warping in and out 4 or 4 times. Headed through the next deadspace gate (wich is 100km from the warp in point and you cant use bookmarked warpins)...
2 heavy gun turrets, 2 heavy missile turrets, 4 cruisers and 4 frigates all in range of the warpin point. Webbers, scramblers and target jammers amongst them.. managed to take out 2 frigates and a cruiser before i was destroyed and gave up for the night. Gives a mission reward of about 1.3million if its done quic, and at least the same again in target bounties .. but its just cost me about 25million isk :/
I really dont like the way that their heavy missiles have twice the range of mine as well

Edited by: Jaleean Atheria on 15/01/2006 09:44:23 I looove the challengeing missions tbh :)
I almost lost my retri three times on this mission
My strategy, as was stated earlier was to warp in, approach a bit, and take some damage, then when Im getting low on armor drop a BM and warp out. Wait for the repair, then warp back in, sometimes I get lucky and land near a turret. Basically the turrets are the first targets, I use Standard Crystals while I get in orbit around one turret to kill the guards. Switch to Multifrequency then blow up that turret. Then again on approach to the other turret I switch to Standard and kill a guard or two, get in orbit, Multifrequency blow up the turret. I switch back to standard and take out the remaining guards. By this time the convoy has spawned. After Im done with the guards I start working on the dessy NPCs, I usually have to warp out before I get them done. Wait for repairs, then warp back on my BM, kill the Dessy NPCs with standard, once I get one or two of them down its pretty much out of the red zone for me, remember I fly a frigate so those Destroyers can hurt, REALLY bad. I get in orbit around the crusier, switch to MF and blow him away. Take out the transports and pop open a drink and go turn in the completion.
The mission isnt easy but it is easily doable. However, I can see it being near death for people in ships with larger signature radius though.
But the reward definately needs some tweaking
The crusier bounty is nice though :)

Edited by: Spartan III on 15/01/2006 15:00:18 Did the level 3 version in my prophecy(4.5 mill SP and no T2 guns) it suprised me so i played it safe and aligned. The damage output was very high and makes you warp out once but only once. First time in went in i took out the frigs, second time i hit the sentrys first, then the officer, and then the destroyers(WOOT FINALLY SOME NEW CLASS OF NPCS IN MISSIONS!!!!). So it took 1 warping out but after that i got them.
I believe this is the number of NPCs and order they should be taken out(As i did not take em out in right order).
2x Sentrys Is 3 or 4x Destroyers 7x frigs 1x officer(was in a maller(cruiser) but didn't do awsome damage and had a tuff tank so best to take him out last)
I used a kin and thermal hardener as thats what i use for almost all missions although a thermal and em would have worked better as these guys are blood raider if i remember correctly.
I had a lot of fun doing this mission! Cheers CCP! ******************** Join Public Channel "Christian Public Access" for great fellowship and fun |

I did this mission twice last night in a Brutix. I tried all 4 hardeners for the towers and didn't see any effect. They were hitting me for around 120 damage average. Even had a wrecking shot for 386. Does anyone know which hardeners to use for the sentry towers?
The first time through I took out all the frigates before having to warp out. When I repaired and came back in I faced the rest of the first group plus the entire second group. Nasty. I saved the towers for last. They pummeled me from well over 100km. It took way too many warp outs for my taste. Harder than Spy Stash imo.
The second time I tried to kill the towers first. I killed one before warping out. Then I faced both complete groups of ships and the last tower. I managed to kill the last tower before warping out again. The ships were gravy without the towers.
Just repeating this to see if anyone knows the answer: Does anyone know which hardeners to use for the sentry towers? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Still working on |

Depends on who your fighting(although somtimes sentrys do different damage then the damage the ships do), I fought bloodraiders so em and thermal hardeners should work the best AFAIK. ******************** Join Public Channel "Christian Public Access" for great fellowship and fun |

I'm pretty sure I faced Blood Raiders as well.
Is it possible that the sentry towers do unresistable damage? I left one tower to experiment with after all the ships were destroyed. I tried all of the hardeners (there's 4 total right?) and either they didn't make much of a difference or they had no effect at all. To clarify, yes they were running and were increasing the proper resists as shown in my ships info.

Do you remember what the name of the sentry gun was? I think it might have just been "Sentry Gun I", but a more specific name would be good. ******************** Join Public Channel "Christian Public Access" for great fellowship and fun |

I do these in a Prophecy. I got 1.2mill skillpoints, 700k of those in learning. I got an alt in a Brutix that I also send in to help with DPS. I agree that the Sentries have extreme dps, but the mission isnt THAT hard. I never get any drops from the Captain though, and that annoys the hell outa me.

Use smaller ships and do not approach the sentry guns - orbit them to keep the transversal velocity high - the bigger the sentry gun the poorer it's tracking.
Fast small ships. - AF's

With 3 million SP and a Ferox fitted with all T2/named items, I can do thiswith no real problem (level 3). I run a passive tank (lows have 2x Shield Power Relay and 2x BCU, Meds had 2x T2 Invul Fields and 3x T2 Large Shield Extenders). I come out on top with %50 shields left each time.
It`s the most challenging mission I`ve done, second really only to TS level 3.

Xascor: Its not like the other char got any better skills than I. In a scorpion or any other Tier 1 BS it should be a fart in space. But then again, people still cry when their BS guns cant hit a inty thats orbiting them at 1200m/sec. I can do it singlehandidly as well, but it'd take me more than 3 times the time.

I like this mission was a shock to me doing it last night.
I run a passive tank ferox and was suprised at how this was compared to other level 3 missions.
I had to warp out as my shield got down to around 10%.
This was good though as it was a nice change that it wasn't easy like I expected

Decaro I understand and wasn't complaining about the difficulty myself. I just want to know if there's a counter for the towers to lessen their damage output.
But...claiming a mission is not hard while using 2 ships that should each be able to solo it is kinda counter-productive. You are effectively using a 14 gun Battlecruiser. I doubt anyone with one account can boast one of those. You should be able to kill twice as fast as a solo player. Killing that fast you take half the damage allowing your cap, shield and armor to recover easier. That isn't that same as a solo player in any respect.
This is a challenging mission solo due to the high damage output from the towers. If it would take you "more than 3 times the time" would you still not consider it hard? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Still working on |

I think its fine as it is. Sure its a bit challenging, sure I lost a drone first time I tried it cos I wasnt expecting it and it had me a bit worried but thats what makes it interesting and most of all FUN. If every mission was easy to complete without any danger then what'd be the point. If its too much for some, make sure you're aligned to warp out amd pick them out on at a time, or bring a friend, or just plain old skip the mission until you are able to do it.
Not attacking anyone just dont wanna see fun missions nerfed

I did this last night and the Sent guns were hitting me for 100-200 damage at 150k. I kept flying and they continued to hit. One of the shots was wreking for 487. Something is odd about the guns on that mission. I think the devs need to look into it. The guns act more like Concord sent guns than mission guns.

Got this mission yesterday for the first time. I fly a Raven with medicore skills. All in all i had to jump out two time. The first time cause I was too close, second time cause my cap ran dry after killing 1 Sentry, all the frigs, destroyers and cargo vessels. The sentrys hit very hard but pop rather fast. The Captain made me most of my problems. Either he has a really small sig or he got awesome resistances. Of all 4 Damage types the highest hits i got with Cruise was with Thermal for a whooping 50 Damage. Even Torps hit for only 50 damage. I tried all four damage types on him. Nothing worked. I Target painted him still the same. All ranges the same. Anyone expirienced the same ?

Too hard? No way! This mission is great, actually. Made me remember the times when I was a noob and had to figure stuff out. Most missions are not a challenge at all - these new ones kick some butt excitement-wise :).
I run a well-rounded Cyclone with not-so-good skills (4m, 2m in learning, with most cruiser related skills at 3, only two med drones): 4x220, 3xAssault,1xMedNos and the most basic active shield tank + pdu/gyro. The first time I jumped out once, the second time I did the mission it turned out I never really had to. The turrets are actually IIs, not Is as someone said earlier. I don't really know how I stand DPS wise, but once I passed the 10km line (ACs range), the turrets went down nicely and smoothly. They sure pack a punch tho :). The rest is pretty much straightforward, while the captain requires patience due to incredibly high resists. I guess in my case it's all about luck - if the sentries score some wrecks while I'm still on approach, a single jump-out might be in order.
Oh, and also - if you tank shields, don't panic. Even if they go into your armor, so what? Armor is your cap regen buffer, spend it wisely, keep your cap around 30-40% (helps regen). Besides, the damage output isn't THAT incredible, I ran that against BLOODS, which is BAD for a shield tanker.
Anyway, that's my $0.02 And again: Don't panic!! :) |

Edited by: Veridion on 10/02/2006 15:46:46 Edited by: Veridion on 10/02/2006 15:40:52 As a newb for most part, 1.3mil sp with 800kish in learning, I had very little problem with the level 3 version. Running a Ferox with a passive shield setup, 9kish shield, EM and Thermal hardeners for this mission(blood raider damage). Killing the sentries is the key. I got the first one taken out as I watched the rest arrive, took me 26 points into armor. Warped back in, took out the second sentry and never went under 70% shield from there on out. Using EM heavy missiles I very slowly took out the 289k bounty cruiser, which seemed to be tanking rather well.
EDIT...My kestral rocket spewing alt usually comes with to help with the dps and ping away at the frigs. On this one as most, I bring him in when all the sentries are killed and aggro is pretty much established.

Assuming this is the Space-port version everyone is talking about...
I thought I had this mission mastered but still had to warp out with my BC the other day. I didn't realize the Wingmen (Guardian Veterans) did so much damage. From now on, I'll make sure to take out two of them before I focus my efforts on the Guards and Transport ships. This is after I take out the first two Guardian fighters and the towers, of course.
When I first arrive, I always afterburner it towards and over the starbase so I can get in gun range of the towers quickly. Then, when the convoy finally arrives, it will take a while for them to catch up to me.

First time i did it with my Brutix i had to warp out like 3-4 times. But second time i did it without problems, i didn't have to warp out. The key is to take out the sentries and two frigs guarding the spaceport really fast and then when the convoy arrives just hit the AB and keep your distance and wtfpwn frigs before they get in close.
