Edited by: Sam Albertek on 16/01/2006 09:52:05 Every time i unfit a module from my ship, it no longer stacks with other modules of its type. this gets annoying when your item list becomes:
125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I 125mm Railgun I
Instead of
125mm Railgun I [little 25 in the bottom corner]
Sure there might not be a reason for me to have so many railguns, but the extra list takes up space and thre isnt any reason why its there.
And yes i know i can repackage them but i have to go through and repackage each one, and with all the turrets and missile launchers i have, it gets annoying.

Select them all, right click and select repackage. Right click again and select stack all.
Now, that was easy wasn't it

Im just saying its a pointless thing that doesnt make sense why its there. there arent any two items with the same name, as far as i know, so why dont they have items stack based on name? its more logical than whatever they use to decide how things are stacked
(note: ships still wont stack)
and also when i try to select the turrets and right click on everything, it takes forever. that plus unlocking them from the station container after i remove them from my ship all gets annoying and time consuming.

Repackaging affects things in a pretty serious way.
Makes things smaller, causes you to lose ship insurance, etc. _________ roflfest 2006 - be there

First of all, I dont insure 125mm railguns. 2nd, what difference could packaging and unpackaging something as small as a turret make?
Edit: then damaged modules can be seperate. but when i have 23 railguns all in this huge list, it not the easiest way to run things.

like others have said... 1. the item could be damaged, therefore it needs repairing b4 it can be restacked 2. repackaged items can be sold on the market, unpacked gear can't (stops people from placing seriously damaged items like drones on the market and scamming others)

Edited by: Jamius on 16/01/2006 13:08:31 Agree - it's a pain like a lot of the Eve user interface. Yes you can re-package, question - why should you have to? It's just another pointless step that serves no purpose other than to seem cool the 1st few times you do it then annoy thereafter.
Why should equipment even get damaged? Has anyone here had damaged equipment cause them an issue other than a pain in the ar$e cos you have to fix it to re-package it to sell it? Drones I understand should take damage but ship equipment?!?
Also stuff being automatically locked in station containers. I know why you would want to lock items but it should be unlocked by default - not the other way round.
I better stop.
A little irritaion becomes a big one when repeated 1000 times.

The point of packaging is as a database feature. When you repackage, it dumps all extra data relating to the module so that EVE doesn't have to track it. Then, a single stack is stored as one item. -- Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 16/01/2006 14:54:57 And thus we finally uncover the true source of lag in EVE...
Repackaging is there for very necessary game elements, as noted above.
It takes moments to repackage everything in your hanger if you wish.
It wouldn't break my heart if damaged items had a visible flag on it to aid in repair operations.

Lol, with current lag situations this takes 2 minutes or more for me.

Because the game would have to sort out damaged from undamaged.
Because the game would have to sort item by item.
Because the game would have to intuitively figure out what you did and didn't want stacked (it would have to read your mind).
Because not everyone is too lazy to use the tools the game gives you to do this. |

Just a quick CAUTION. If you've got containers with stuff in them (especially bookmarks), DO NOT repackage them. It will dump the contents of the containers into your hangar. You can still select all then hold CTRL and click on the containers to unselect them, then repackage.

Think of this... a bike when packaged in it's box can be stacked to save space. When a bike is assembled, you can't stack it. Thus, repackaging enables you to stack your items. The difference packing and unpackaging can make is, one cleams things up and one doesn't. If you don't mind the mess, then don't bother. If you don't want to have 23 125mm Railguns all in a line, repackage, stack all, and now you have 23 in a nice neat stack. Simple. *************************************************

One of the biggest annoyances with this game indeed.
I do this repackage crap every so often, then it halts when it finds something thats damaged...then its up to you to figure out which module is damaged, repair it and repackage the lot again. This can repeat itself for a while...
Just let every undamaged item auto-repackage (bar the obvious things like cans/ships) when you drop it into the hangar.
OR
When I repackage all my items and it runs into a damaged mod give me an option to fix the damn item instead of that stupid message which aborts the command.

PS: And to all the ppl that say `oh boohoo, your lazy and its all good like this`. Bull...this whole packaging thing of modules is pointless, theres absolutely no added bonus for gameplay...quite the opposite.
I like the repair window idea. Calm down a bit though, mate. The auto-repackage would work terrifically as well.
Maybe, auto-repackage when placed into hangar and you get a repair window that pops up when the item is damaged asking if you would like to repair it or destroy it. *************************************************
