What happens to a Giant Secure Container, or any secure container, if you just leave it floating out in 1.0 or 0.9 sec space, password locked, but not anchored. Can it float away? Can it get tractor beamed away? Can anyone scoop it up? Would you be notified if someone picked it up? Could it be hacked? Could it be destroyed? Would I be notified if something happened to it?
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment you wish to share.

It can get scooped up and then opened (by repackaging it) in a station.
Otherwise it's the same as an anchored Secure container (ie. no hacking, shooting, floating..)

It can be scooped, then opened (heck, I don't think the password works at all unless it's anchored). Obviously no need to hack, never tried a tractor beam, won't float, won't pop, won't be notified, can be destroyed.

It will pop though, if it's not stolen, which is highly unlikely.

It can be repackaged and then opened. But what about its content? Is it then lost? Let say you get attacked and then jettison your GSC, password protected. Can someone scoop it and open it in his cargo and loot it?

I know you can't mine ore directly into a jet-can, you have to move it yourself, but what about secure containers? It'd be a much more efficient way to afk mine than with an indy.

You can't password it until it's anchored in space... I did extensive testing last night with my husband. You can get the popup box, but it doesn't take effect until AFTER it's anchored. This was to prevent people from keeping all their cargo in passworded containers so if their ship was destroyed the pirate couldn't look their cargo.
In essence, they are almost useless in anything above 0.7 space unless you're working with another person.. one mining, the other running back to the station.
If you are both on good standing, it's not an illegal action nor considered stealing.

Nope. They have a range... you can't put them out within 5,000m of ANYTHING.. including asteroids. You can sorta get in range to put the cargo over and mine at the same time, but if you use drones it makes them slower since they have to travel farther.

Using a ship with a cargo hold large enough to hold the secure container, get very close to it. I think you have to be within 1000 meters. When you right-click on the secure container, there will be a menu option, "Scoop to cargo hold".
Alternately, if you have the secure container on your overview, there should appear a button for the same action.
Happy hunting! Secure containers sitting in high security systems are always a nice quick source of cash!
