I had this problem on my 'lesser' gaming machine. (I run 2 accounts) I just upgraded it from a 1ghz Duron with 796megs of PC133 ram, to a Sempron +2800 with 512 megs of 400mhz DDR.
Much happier now. Same OS, same Video card. No problemo. Smooth as silk, even with 256 less megs of ram. No reboot on exiting the client.
Now if only this random disconnect issue would cease on both gaming rigs... I don't think the problem is local at all.

I have this problem. I click the quit game key and hey presto my computer is rebooting. That problem is not quite as bad as it crashing every time a hostile (red dot on screen) gets close to my ship - this happens without fail every time.

I have this problem and the machine's gaming power is definitely not a problem. I'm on Windows XP SP2, 256mb Geforce FX 6600, 1024 mb RAM. It doesn't happen every time, but it almost always reboots when I've been on for several hours.
The worst thing is actually asteroid belts forcing a reboot, but I think I'll make a new thread for that.

well my pc reboots now to the point i cant actually play anymore :'/ my pc restars usually every few mins into the game or so, which is REALLY frustrating. somtime i dont have time to change skill :/
i switched to my spare pc, loaded eve, and then that started to do the same! neither have a history of crashing, virus scans and the like come out as negative, the hardware is working properly, i dunno what to do. infact my main pc is only a few months old :/

I didnt know there were this many poeple having this problem. I tried switching my video card out with my older one because thats all my friends computer and mine have in common.6600gt to 5700le. Problem still happens so i guess i am just going to have to live with it. I really hope this problem gets fixed in a newer patch especially for those who crash when they see the red dots. Thank you for your replays.

did you read the first sticky at the top about replacing the resFace.stuff file?
That seems to have solved a lot of crashing problems for a lot of people and it happens whenever you display a face/ship graphic so locking ont someone or clicking 'show info' would cause it to crash (sounds like that red dot problem).

I have a restarting problem too
I can't get through the tutorial even and it reboots my pc, no problems at all with any other games I play.
AMD 64 3500 ATI XT850 2 GB RAM
I'll try the suggested file replacement later and see if this cures it.
I'm new to Eve and a bit dissapointed that my 14 day trial is being used up by trying to get the software to run.

Edited by: The Xero on 20/01/2006 16:41:26 Hmmm i have tried just about everything first when i asked the tech support they told me to run a test they said to disable my other graphic card so i did. Still my computer restarts i tried to update all my drivers still my computer restarts. I tried to replace that file that was in the other topic and still my computer restarts the game runs fine no lag the sound is good when im in combat there is no lag so i dont understand the game runs 100% perfect but it will just restart my computer at random i really dont know what to do. I paid for an entire month i love this game so much but i just wish this would not happen i want to enjoy the game.

usualy restarting mid game is caused by a cpu error which sends a ground singnal to the reset switch on the mother board :( and same goes for the video card. It's not that the mother board, video card or cpu is crap it's just the relationship between everything, I bet if you upgrade your bios, update the drivers for your chip set on your mother board, update your videocard drivers and install the the most updated version of directx, which is currently 9.0c. If you've all ready updated to 9.0c and the issues are still their it could be an issue with the way your drivers are communicating with directx which could be causing the reboot aswell :(

Just to let you guys know, I've had problems with Eve rebooting my computer frequently, which can get very frustrating very rapidly.
I updated my graphic card drivers with no effects, although it seems my sound card created these problemes : I changed the drivers for a beta version on the Realtek website yesterday night, and since then, no problems; I hope it'll be ok like this.
Hope this can help some of you guys.

If you already upgraded your graphic drivers then try to disable the sound,i did this and now Eve doesnt restart my computer anymore. I think it means that the soundcard is causing the problem so a new soundcard or up to date sound drivers would probably fix the problem forever.

I have this problem too.
Im pretty sure the problem is with the firewall, i tried turning it off yesterday for a few hours , and my pc didnt restart once, when it usually happens every few minutes. Ive tried using zonealarm and mcafee personal firewall, but they both cause eve to restart my pc.
Obviously, playing without a firewall isnt an option, but I dont know what else can be done. __________________________________________________

I had this problem and turned off the audio and it stopped. Time to get another sound card.
