I recently learned that not too many people think of Executioners as anything but a poor tackler or a decent shuttle: Executioner Setups
But I noticed the Crusader and Malediction and wanted to know if these could be used to effect in PvE? I know they are earmarked tacklers for PvP: but how do they perform in low sec npc rat hunting and missions? And which would be better for this purpose?
Or are they completely overshadowed by the Amarr Vengeance Assault Ship for PvE?
I really enjoy speed and Amarr ships and am looking for something for PvE so wondered if Interceptors would fit the bill?

That is, literally, what my first victim thought as my executioner downed his omen. Be wary of brushing tech 1 frigates aside. --------------

Crusader for PvE
It has a Damage bonus which makes it's damage somewhere between 50-70 pr hit with t2 guns, and it ahs 4 low's so you can really mess around with your setup.
i'd reccomend something like: 4xdual light pulse laser II's
1xAb t2 1xcap recharger
1xsmall armor repairer for the alst 3 you can smack in some relays maybe a resiatcne plating or a heat sink. It's really up to you about those. --------------------------

I can do all lvl 3 missions in my raptor. Many interceptors have dps as high as an AF. A well piloted inty with tiny sig radius and high speed can avoid as much dmg as an AF can tank. A group of inties with afterburners would be a fun way to do high lvl complexs. While it is posible, it is slower to do lvl 3 missions in an inty then in a battlecruiser. I use it because its fun rather than because it is efficient.

The problem with inties for PvE is that, basically, they're superb right up to the point where they get webbed, and then they're dead before they can react.

i've used my crusader for PvE and it does work (you dont get hit by anything bigger than a destroyer) but it takes a while to kill stuff, retribution is a much better choice for PvE imo

Blast it! In that case they are not useful in PvE: I get webbed all the time with NPCs. I do not mind slower killing times relative to AS, but correct me if I am wrong: getting webbed and blown-up by NPCs does not sound like a useful pve ship.
Thank you for all the great replies.

If you fit a long-range setup you should be able to keep away from most of them, just don't try getting up close with frigs.

I don't know about other races but my Retribution does a good 30-40% more DPS than my Crusader, since it has more bonuses, and can fit better guns/more mods on it and had more range. Especially if you're wanting to stick a plate on your interceptor so you don't die as easily.
From my experience in a Crusader I could do level 2 missions pretty easily, but level 3 is extremely tough because whenever you get webified you're basically screwed. Also, even with the tiny signature radius it's hard to tank missles from several targets.

Until you fit an HS2 to the Retri, the Crusader outdamages it until AS5 at which point they draw equal.

Uh... a retribution starts with 56 powergrid and a crusader with 40. You can easily fit 4 medium modulated pulse energy beams on a retribution, whereas a crusader can't fit them if you put anything else on it really.

Both can fit a rack of T2 Med Pulse if you put an MAPC on the Crusader. However, the Crusader doesn't have the CPU to fit an HS2 without losing another low to at least one Co-Pro II - haven't bothered to test how many you need.

If you stuck 4 of them on a crusader and used a micro auxillery power core to do it, you could fit the guns, but wouldn't be able to fit an afterburner, armor repairer, or anything else that is quite needed.

A missile crow can stay out of webby range - but its slow killing anything.

My old PvP fit was 4x Med Pulse II, MWD, 7.5k scrambler, MAPC and three CPR. My PvE fit was 4x Med Pulse II, ABII, webber (IIRC), SAR II, 2x CPR and MAPC. I know they fit, because I used them. And it had higher damage output than my Retribution until I started using an HS2 setup.
(I'm now using DLP II + HS2 setups on my Crusader, because I think it's a better balance)

I guess you could fit it then, without armor plating and if you spend every slot on equipping the guns.
Either way, retribution gets a ranged bonus and therefore can put on better ammo at the same range of a crusader. I keep 2 skadi's on my retribution but even without them I still outdamage my crusader setup because going all weapons didn't seem useful for PvE. Missles would destroy my interceptor. Retribution can easily fit the guns, and has more versatility, if you really wanted to go all out you could fit 3 named heatsinks on a retribution without much powergrid/cpu problems.

Got a question here as some people mentioning frigate ratting in 0.0
With 4 Medium Pulse Laser II and 2 Heat Sink II, it takes a loooong time for my retribution to kill a 650~800k Guristas Scorpion/Raven, and it's impossible to kill 950k spawns. I can imagine people with better skills can do 10% to 30% more DPS but it's still not going to make it worthwhile , isk-over-time-wise. ------------------------------------------- "Death is just the beginning..." |

Amarr ships aren't great at taking down Guristas, unfortunately. I know this from experience :(

God they're horrible at it. The higher up Gurista battleships and such have about 77% EM resist and 60ish~% Thermal resist.
