I've stripped all the modules from my ferox and fitted it with just a single passive kinetic resistance amplifier, tech 1, which says in the item description it will deliver -32.5% damage resist bonus to the shields KE resistance. However, my shield KE resistance has gone up 17%. I'm not stacking (removed any chance of that by fitting only this module to see what happened), and I can't figure out why the resistance is not increased by 32.5%. I'm sure there's an explanation.. and that someone here already knows the answer

The 32.5% resistance means that it stops 32.5% of all the damage still coming through. Shields have a basic resistance of 40% (correct me if I'm wrong), so 60% still comes through. 32.5% of 60% = 19.5%, hence that's why your Kinetic Shield Resistance jumped up by only that amount.

It increases it by 32.5% of whatever is left to 100%.
So if you had zero in that resist it would be 32.5%. If you had 99% in that resist it would increase it by 32.5% of one (0.325)

Calculating resistances is easy but there's a spreadsheet tool to help you do it on my website. Should help you out and ssave you some calculator time. Also it calculates stacking penalty too.

they way hardners work is the 32.5 bonus works on the remaining damage you can take, for instance:
your ferox has a shield base of 40% kinetic resistance
this leaves 60% of kinetic damage left to be recieved
the hardner with then reduce this 60% value so:
60 x 0.325 = 19.5
so a further 19.5% resistance is added bringing to total to:
40% + 19.5% = 59.5%
doesn't quite match your number but i'm beyond certain that thats how the system works.

Don't forget 5% shield resist per level. With two levels of battlecruiser factored in it comes out mighty close.

That's cleared my query up perfectly! Thanks for the quick responses, no doubt what you described is exactly what is accounting for the resultant KE resistance I'm getting. I can keep this in mind for future shield-dabbling - not as straight forward as it seemed at first.
