Can someone either supply a link to a thread explaining kill rights, or answer this question:
Are kill rights in any way proportional to the offence?
For example if "x" blows up a ship being flown by "y" but allows "y" to escape in his pod, and subsequently "y" finds "x" and retaliates, must he only blow up the ship to even the score, or if he can lock the pod can he also pod kill pilot "x" without penalty?
Thanks.

it is certainly not proportional to what you did, you simply get the rights to kill the one that harmed you, in whatever way he did something to doesnt matter (like ore thieving for example)

Ah okay,
I was thinking more along the lines of pvp, didn't consider the ore theifing! - I guess if you can pod someone for pocketing a little coal, you can do it for them trashing your ship!!
Cheers bud - if I'd thought that through properly, I could probably have figured it out for myself!!

Kill rights has nothing to do with ore theiving. Kill rights is a month long chance for you to attack whoever pod killed you.
If someone steals something from a can, or attacks you, you get a 15 minute aggression countdown during which you can attack them. This is not "kill rights". -- Lil Miner |

Actually, you don't need to be pod killed to get kill rights. I have 2 folks on my kill rights list, and only one of them podded me.

It seems the only way you can have Kill Rights on someone is to be attacked and not engage them, i.e. dont shoot, warp scramble anything even if they have pod killed you Kill Rights only covers you on destroying their ship.
If they destroy your ship and you engaged them, your lose having the Kill Rights but, if they pod kill you after however you will have Kill Rights on them.
I think your entire corp is allowed to kill the bandit that did the deed, even your gang members but they wont be flashing red or show any sign that your allowed to kill this guy.

if someone takes anything that is in a can that belongs to you they get a criminal flag towards you too, dont forget that, and i only named ore thieving as an example.

I got kill rights; on a couple of guyz that ganked me .. blew up my ship .. I didn't even attack back; my question is this: Does this mean I can attack them in high sec space without a sec hit/cord/turrets wtf pwnin me?
Other question; can my gang members help; and most importantly .. can their gang members help.
Lastly if you blow them up without them attacking do they get kill rights back on you? (sounds stupid I know but thought I'd double check)

I got podkilled yesterday - didn't return fire (my ship had no weapons mounted) and I have no kill rights visible.

You prolly had negative sec status.. :)

Negative - the character in question, in fact, has a 0.63 security status. Next hypothesis?

I can think of 3 possibilities
1) You were at war. 2) You were in 0.0 space. (Not sure on this one) 3) He had pre-existing kill-rights on you.
Any of those familiar? Otherwise I don't know. -- Originally by: Nyphur The irony is astounding. The sheer level of raw irony here is enough to iron my clothes for a year.

Ah, OK. #2 is the answer. I know that it's basically a free-for-all in 0.0 (it was my first time there) but I didn't know that kill rights didn't apply to kills in low-sec. Thanks for clarifying.

For the last time kill rights and can flagging are two very different subjects, mmkay.
Stop confusing kill rights with can flagging!
The only time you wont get kill rights is either because your in -0.0 in a war or was flagged for taking something out of his can or he had kill rights on you anyways.
If none of that happened then petition for your right to kill the guy.
In answer to another guys question, yes you can kill them anywhere you like, you know if you have kill rights because it will say so in your character sheet under "kill rights" they wont flash red or show any sign that you can kill this guy but yes if you have kill rights his free game.
Except his pod!
Im almost certain it said in the patch notes that you, your corp or gang can join in on the fun and destroy his ship, if you want a more definite answer try that help question thingy in eve

Okay, now I'm back to square one then!
Ore thiefing = 15 mins flag, you have the right to kill for that 15 mins, but it's not in kill rights - got that no problem.
So back to my original scenario - "x" has kill rights on "y" because his ship (and only his ship) was destroyed. Lets assume "x" finds "y" and evens the score. "y" is a little slow to warp out, and his pod gets locked - can "x" now take the pod as part of his kill rights?

Hmmm, you could have been in one of those funny "non-0.0" 0.0 systems?
I thought it sounded odd, but I have been assured there are systems that show as 0.0 but actually qualify as empire and have a sec rating somewhere between 0.0 and 0.1
I was told you could identify them because there are sentry guns by gates still - and presumably now rmr is out, kill rights (however they work) would apply there too.
I am far from certain on this point by the way - just suggesting an idea I heard that might explain it.

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that systems that are rated 0.0 but have 'real' names are the "non-0.0"s and kill rights do apply. For example, Poitot in Syndicate space is one of these. Systems with the hypenated names and numbers (e.g., PF-346, MHC-R3, to name a couple notorious gate-camped systems in Syndicate) are true 0.0 with no rules and no kill rights... -----

If you had kill rights on the guy and you podded him after you will only recieve the security hit.
You cannot pod kill them without taking a security hit unless your in -0.0.
I dont think Kill rights is because the person committed a criminal act but purely for revenge and it should stay that way :D
