My corp was at war briefly last week. This was kindof by mutual agreement, with rules of engagment &c mostly agreed on. It was the most exciting time I've had in any MMO game I've played.
It would be cool to have some kind of ladder system for matching up willing corps with others to have wars against.
Does anything like this exist now?

That would be great but make sure you find a corp. who doesn't spend the entire war fleeing to stations and jumpgates at the first sign of a fight.

As much fun as it sounds, I would prefer there would be no ladder for "nice competition". I was hoping of more corp wars based on territory disputes, pride, etc. Where people ruthlessly kill and pod each other just like in a real war.

Sparring is fun, for the most part...
But the real excite lies in the ever present threat of danger. IMO, when it's staged, it loses it's pucker factor.

Good points, all. My thoughts:
1) Josh: Corps that didn't play well would get a reputation for such & would lose out on the fun. You'd know who the weasels/loggers were, and who fights honorably.
2) Sisqo/Plas: I totally agree that "real" war would/will be more exciting. But while that's not going on, we could be "sparring", practicing tactics, etc.
And to tie the two together, I'd bet that once you knew who the honorable corps were, you'd have an easier time finding allies for the real wars. Just a thought.

I've suggested it before, you challenge a corporation for their assets in a specific system and they'll have to show and engage the opposing fleet till a certain percentage of ships lost on either side is achieved or the no show defendants forfeit their assets.

Thats a fine suggestion, however I wouldn't want to see gurrila warfare removed from the game, it is I imagine an annoying tactic when your on the receiving end, but then that is the point.
What we do need is additional ways of combat, as you say if some assets are destroyable then there would be a reason to stay and fight, if you bought such assets.
The other items that would resolve this is sorting the problem of been able to 100% combat by constantly warping or creating safe warp bookmarks.
I think it would be better as well if the local channel was opt in so that you cannot see who is in a system without scanning, at least that way corps or pirates could sneak up on people. Perhaps we'd see wars not taking place just at jumpgates.

Wars will not get interesting until there are REAL assets to potect, like a station, or a slow mobile refinery.
When these items appear, wars will be serious business, protecting your homebase will become the highest priority, and you can be sure that people will not be leaving so fast....

Totally agree. Right now we're fighting over... nothing, really. Nothing that can't be had in other sectors at least. With corp created stations and security turrets and whatnot, we'll have the ability to secure sectors against others, and thereby have territory to claim, defend and conquer.

Couldn't agree more. Your corp claims one system as "home"...builds. THEN, decides to expand the empire, claiming surrounding systems as controlled territories.
NAP's, Alliances, mergers and partnerships will be created and broken. I can't wait...

Now the carebears want some combat.
But they want it to be risk free?
Does it ever end?

Jeezus. All I did was say "My corp had a war. It was a lot of fun. Let's have more wars for fun." and I get called a carebear?
Calm down, fella. When you see me avoiding REAL war, maybe it'll be time to get personal.
