right here is the deal i have been playing the game for about 3 months just mining and missions but yesterday i started some complexes didnt think the below 3 level was worth it so i tried a few lvl 4's but i vouldnt find the key in any of them now i have killed everyone in the complex and checked all the containers but nothing so do i have to justr hang around till someone comes with it or what any info on this would be much appreciated thanks.

I've just entered 3/10 complex for the first time and after killing all the gate guards and sentry towers, I'm unable to find any keys for the acceleration gate.
Where can I find the keys? |

look for either deadspace overseers structures on your overveiw or 'named' rats, such as security chief. they're normally the keyholders.

I also had this problem, but i found out the named rats that have the keys only spawn once per hour to hour and a half and loot cans dont respawn for about 6 hours <The end loot cans with PHAT LOOT>..... the 1/per hour keeps ppl from farming keys

What you want to look for is a structure or rat that drops a can that also holds "overseers effects", if you kill everything and have not found the key or such an item then the overseer had not respawned.
Most of the time I find that the overseer is very easy to identify, if a ship it is uniquely named and thus if you sort overview after name you should fast find him.
If the overseer is a structure it can be a tad trickier as they are not as simple to keep apart.
I do however know that it is a target structure that fills its own slot type in the overview list just like target structures do in agent missions.
You can thus config your overview to only show the rats and the target overseer structure, my rambling probably sound confusing now but if you go into an area with an overseer structure and experiment Im sure you will grasp what I meen very quickly.
The most probable reason for you not finding keys however is that you are trying to do a complex in a highly populated area, such complexes are not neccesarilly farmed but they are constantly used.
What you need to do is to find a complex in an are with low regional population.
I personally have a coupple of complexes that have untill now never been cleared when I decide to do them and over the last 2 weeks they have provided me with items that I have sold for 390mil and I am far from farming them, when I get boored with my common dealings I take a tour of 20 or so jumps and fly through 8 or so complexes and I do that every 2 days or so.
In short, leave the high populated areas, you dont have to go to lowsec, just have to get some good intel.
