Sentry guns need to be removed from .4 or less systems or make them jammable, it is not fair that you can't jam sentry guns, you have made sentry guns God with perfect accuracy and range. You are pushing out pirates to much and we need a place to camp aka play our role and by you place sentry guns stragically, this is making traders job easier then its suppost too. Stop pushing us pirates further and further out of empire space. IF your not going to do this and continue to push us out, at least make it so that the carebears have to goto 0.0 space to make alot of money.... 0.0 = hardly any traffic. ---

Been seeing lots of sentry guns in 0.5 0.5 0.3 0.2 0.1 0.0 0.0 0.0 Empire protected systems that they dont play any particullar role in being there, for ex. no one uses the systems, some guns could be removed so pirates too could be travelling through Empire space to get in the other side of the Universe. Any pirate hnter has to travel to 0.0 now to get them, he cant just bump on them near his neighborhood like it used to happen, which is bad for the variety of the gaming experience in Eve.

Why shouldn't a pirate be able to destroy a sentry gun?? Or jam one??
Wouldn't it make more sence if a pirate could destroy a sentry gun and then a fleet of cops show up.
If the pirates out number the cops they should be able to keep them off, otherwise the PC pirates could move on.
How would you feel if an NPC pirate attacked you for 270 every 2 seconds while you mined???
Its not like there are stations in abundance in 0.0 space...how are pirates to get skills books? Basic services???
Playing a pirate is just as legitamate occupation as any other occupation. Just because you choose not to be one shouldn't mean you should try to limit others.
On the otherhand the autopilot should be upgraded for those traders. I would think if the PC trader was at the keyboard the autopilot should warn them that there have been reports of ships destroyed/pods destroyed in the next system to be jumped. A trade would be 'tuned to the police band' or 'be listening to the local emergency channel'...

Edited by: Kutka on 27/08/2003 05:54:22 I have been playing eve now for a about two months. I have two accounts, and I think its nearly impossible to play a pirate or pirate like character. For one, if you are a new player going into a .0 system is a bit over-bearing with lame NPC pirates. I haven't even seen a Human Pirate, or been targetted by a human pirate. The economics in the game are wacked. Whats happening is only super powerful players or corps can mine rare ore, which I would just as well pay for than face having to go into a .0 system alone to even attempt to mine. CCP has to reduce the amount of NPC pirates in the .0 sectors and leave em free for human pirates. Also why does only .0 systems have rare ore? actually Rare ore could appear anywhere. Perhaps .0 sectors could have rare trade items or have super high demand for items like wine, or luxuries or holoreels.. because those sectors have more demand being farther away from core sectors of space. Easy solution would be to Increase values of trade goods in low sec system to make being a trader more lucrative. Face it, the trade goods and supply and demand engine is wacked. I don't think Tank is being a carebear, he is a customer and has a legit issue. For fun, I attempted to take on a convoy in sector space in my newbie frigate, I was destroyed in seconds....being a pirate isn't very easy, as advertised on the Box for Eve.
Hey Tank, if you know how someone could be a pirate or have any advice or tips on getting started evemail me if you have a chance.
Thanks

What pirates do to get trade inside empire space is create an alternate character to handle those things. Many of us carebears have figured this out for hauling duties ..... whats taking you guys so long????????? OOOPs I forgot you're PIRATES !!!!! hahahahaha
Sorry couldnt resist. But really to sell buy in empire you don't need your main character to do that. Just create and alt with industrial ship capabilities(takes about a day) and you have your sales person, gofer, man friday at your disposal, transfer of goods is simply a matter of using secure containers that anyone with the password has access to. Money transfered simply by player donation.
So you've chosen to be a pirate, well that character can't come into empire space once you pass the magic -5 ranking. So what, you don't need to be in there raising hate and discontent anyway. Live with it. You are only crippled if you let yourself be so.

I role played a whacked out religious nut with this character. We chose a corp and declared war and blew up some of their ships.
The results? They formed an alliance. 400+ people. 7 corps declared war on us. It's now what I would call a target rich enviroment...
I can "pirate" in 1.0 space and the cops won't bother me. However if I just want to be a blood thirsty murderer who preys on random passersby then the cops would be all over me. Instead of whining adapt to the game.

Gasp, you mean you need to adapt!
I thought all you were able to do was run crying to the devs and hope that they change it for you. ------------------- Basic truths? Idiots make us rich. - Some people are only alive because it is illegal to kill them. |

I agree with you on this Tank; there should be more danger to walking into 0.4-0.0 systems, and the sentry really disturb a lot of that. That also brings up the problem of npc control in general. There is WAY too much Concord control over space, making it too easy for the tree-hugging peace mongers (and at the same time, too hard for combat-type players). They cry about pirates "having their territories" but the problem is those spots are so few. Do you know why that is? Because the game currently doesn't allow them to spread out! There needs to be more support for pirates to move about and camp different spots without the sentry, without concord, etc. The game is too static in regards to combat. Right now everyone knows the pirate camping spots by name; they can go afk when not passing through those systems; it should have the ability to fluxuate to add a randomness and surprise to the game.
Solutions: option 1.) Make sentry in 0.4-0.0 empire *random* from day to day. Make players be caution because they don't know if the system they're passing through has sentry at the gates or not. Will also force pirates to do some scouting to find which systems have no sentry for the day.
option 2.) Let the sentry be jammed/destroyed. Make it so that after say... an hour or two after the destruction of a sentry gun, a large fleet of police ships will enter, (attack pirates), and redeploy some new sentry, stay for a while, then leave again. Forces the pirates to run, gives a period of safety, and allows anti-pirates the chance to build up a force at the gate to prevent further pirate infestation.
WOW my post has been all over the place now, if you skipped to the bottom I recommend not reading above :P
I'm too lazy to proof read or add anything so... bash away at my errors. I intend to write up a new post within the day about the problems and solutions to several of the control problems as far as Concord/sentry/PvP in empire space is concerned. Have more testing to do... my current results are that Concord takes only 8-13 seconds from a player's first PvP shot until Concord warps in, targets, target jams, and warp scrambles the player. G'night ______________
