As im sitting here not touching eve but watching task manager... i see the eve memory usage gaining a MB every 6 seconds and is currently at 219mb of memory used.
All while im sitting waiting at the character selections that i clicked a half hour ago so i might actually get to play this F'ing game.
Sure its cool to wait till mid feb, mind if i dont pay until then? geez....
ALL MMO'S screw you at the drive thru...

I didn't have any problems playing today. Maybe it's your comp or ISP. Waiting that long to log in is definitely an odd problem, and one I've never heard of outside a crash during a fleet battle.

Quit blaming everything on CCP, thousands people out there (included me) playing without any problem. Its either your comp or your ISP, so suck it.

No it isn't muppet, there is a memory leak. I had little trouble with it (only going to 160mb) until yesterday it hit 250mb after 6 hours playing and started randomly lagging. A client reboot fixed it. It apparently has something to do with texture memory* and so affects people depending on GPU card type and driver level.
* After a few hours of playing if I look at a large armarr station my framerate drops to 5fps. This only happens at large amarr stations after a few hours, and it stops if I pan my camera off the station. I never had this happen before RMR.

Edited by: Righteous Fury on 22/01/2006 06:38:32 If your computer has a problem running a program using 250mb+ of memory, then clearly you need to do the following three things:
1) close the ****. windows media player and eve dont get along so well if you're planning on watching an entire movie while mining. this goes for other programs such as photoshop, adobe premier, and oddly enough 3Dmark2006. I have discovered the hard way that it is NOT possible to play Civ4 while gatecamping, much to my dismay.
2) buy more ram. your computer is not a car, you're not compensating for anything, but 256mb ain't gonna cut it anymore
3) stop whining. if you don't want to follow the literally hundreds of easy fixes posted in the workarounds forum, and you dont want to upgrade to a computer that can play the most basic of games (eve really doesn't require much compared to say, battlefield 2), nobody wants to hear about it.

BTW.I'm not having this problem atm...just trying to help, as I belive that might help them help you...

Update your drivers after totally removing older drives. Install the .NET 2.0 framework. Older versions have a few mem problems and MS doesn't tell you about it. Some drivers seem not to produce mem leaks when the 2.0 is installed. Install DX9.0c when you're done with the other steps.
EVE does use 180-220MB, depending on your settings.
Btw. is there any point staring at the task manager? It can't give you more than a hint if you know how a program should behave. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

I've not had this RAM problem that people talk about, but I know for sure the lag has been getting worse and worse (for me) the past few days, and he's right, EVE is completely unplayable at times. Those times just seem to be getting more asnd more freqquent. -- bumcheekcity |

well its not an illusion so the flamers can go suck on a lemon.
its standard for eve to do that as it stores a lot of info from the moment you open the clent. it has a sort of built in ram disk that grows ( like your windows swap file ) it may take it a while to reach its maximum and then it wont get any bigger.
this is where it stores client specific volital info that it clears when the game crashes or is closed but remembers what it needed when it was last opened and alocates it. but as the game is played it will grow, as patches and database and optimizations take place it will grow even more... this is not exactly right but it gives you the idea of why.. hope it helped.

AMD64 3800 4Gigs of Ram 6800 GT 256 Vvidia card. 2xHardsik, 1 160Mb another a raptor 74 GB Highspeed cable con.
Its not my isp, my PC is perfectly suited to play this game. I got mem leak.

First of all, reinstall your windows, install ALL the newest drivers for EVERY bit of hardware that needs a driver. If you've done that then you can post here complaining.
And who are these "we" people?

Sorry RF doesn't work that way, I only had TS and mIRC running. I had tons of memory free but EVE was freezing every few minutes for 2-3 seconds (for no reason I could fathom, disk wasn't being hit for virtual memory). My guess is that the memory leak was filling up some buffers and EVE was trying to empty them. This is the first time that I have actually had to restart my client, normally it just goes to around 160mb (and I don't care as I have plenty of free memory).

Two hours?
Try running around a region (with Amarr stations) doing combat for at least four hours. And as I have said before this seems to be an issue with graphic card drivers, so it won't hit all people in the same way. I thought it was mostly bull**** until I had it happen last night.

If it takes that long for the problem to occur, wouldn't it be really easy to just relog every, um, FOUR HOURS? -- Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: Fooball on 22/01/2006 17:15:22 Works for me. Been playing the last 5 hours, at 190 megabytes or so. Never seems to eat memory, ever. Can play some 12+ hours non-stop without even the tiniest glitch.
Edit: Just to point out.. That it really doesn't bug everyone around..
