I understand that you cant just go by age of the character to determine if you can or cant. But it will give me an understanding of what SP i'll be looking for.
At the moment im running lvl 3 for Caldari Navy. I just want to know how many SP you need to comfortably solo a lvl 4, not the extravaganzers yet but the lower LP missions.
ATM i have 5.7mil SP 1mil in gunnery, 800K in learning and the rest are in engineering, elec etc... but no BS skills i will be getting BS up to 4 and large turret to 4 aswell before trying.
Might i have a good chance at soloing lvl 4s??

You shouldnt have too much trouble,
It's 1/3 SP, 1/3 ship setup and 1/3 how you fly the ship. If the ship setup is sound and you fly ok then SP shouldnt hold you back

Just like any other missions ... start out slowly feeling your way thourhg .... find a set-up that works and run with it. Today i finished my first lvl4 (i have 1.5 mil SP), and although there was a fair amount of warping out, and the set-p needs a bit more tuning along with tactics, things went ok.
Once you have BS and turret of preferance to 3, you shouldn't have much problem aside from tanking the damage, and as you seem to have solid core skills that shouldn't be a problem.
My advice is build a solid tank then add guns, not the other way around. Not killing the other guys isn't too bad as long as you survive.

Perhaps you can ask someone to join them on their level4 missions before trying to solo them. That way you can make an estimation on how well you would perform in relative safety. Either do them jointly from start, or ask your mate to stay out of range / at the gate as back up while you check out how your tank holds and your damage output is working.

4.5 million SP now, been doing level 4s for almost exactly a month, with 1.7 million in learning skills.
The advice about having a good tank is spot on. By implication, that means good cap skills, or lavish use of Eutectic/CR II/CPRs depending on your ship.
I started on the easy ones like Intercept the Pirate Smugglers and so forth. I can do Serp Ex now. Vengeance and Mordus headhunters are marginal, simply because they can take longer than my normal play session time. The only mission where I have to switch both reppers on is Angel Surprise.
Right Hand, Silence, Angel Ex, In the midst are still out of the question.

You can actually solo all non-deadspace lvl4 missions as soon as you can fly a battleship and use large turrets. Just warp in at 100km, snipe away and warp back to station if they get too close. Pretty damn easy.

Actually in recent times this has become harder. My first few attempts on lvl 4 were sniper based, but some spawns will just rush the ass off you the second you warp in. Need to be careful if your gunna go sniping.

I would never try the long range tactics personaly... To many inty's out there for my taste.
The 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 comment is pretty much right. The number of skill points does nto mater in a HAC or BS you should be able to do all lvl4 misions without to much trouble. The trick is to be careful at first try doing "new" mission with one or two experianced people at your side.
This way you can discover what to expect and work out what your prefered tactic is to these. If you are falling asleep doing 10 lvl3 misions an hour try doing a lvl4 (carefuly) and you might actualy have some fun again doing missions. ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

Yep good tank and cap for the closerange setup........watch first in your overview what ships are in and wait till someone lock you. In that time you can point your nose of the BS to an escape point (gate/belt/station) while traveling to it. For the interceptors use some drones and light missiles and take down with your large guns the cruisers first. In these days BS mwd fast to ya like an interceptor. If its too hot for you, you can always warp away if you have lucky not been warpscrambled. Insurance the ship! Good luck

My recommendation is to run the missions with someone that knows how to do L4s until you have the missions memorized. Than go solo.
In our corp, we have new players run loot duty when any of us does L4s (on we have new player on....). It takes just about the same time, since we will wait for them to pick up the loot before we go to the next gate, but that gives the new player a chance to see how to do the mission, which groups to pick first, what not to shoot at (i.e. some gate guns), and to have a general feel for the missions, not to mention the financial benefit for them.
It works really well, we quiz them all the time during missions, like asking them whats on the next gate, or if shooting at a specific gun aggro the all gate, etc. The program has been very succesful, none of our new players that went through the program have lost a BS on an L4.
Theonenoonenos, I ran missions out of Motsu, if you are in the area, give me shout, I will be more than happy to have you come along, I can even let you "solo" the mission and just stand by, in case things get too hot.

Getting a good idea of how the missions feel is the other 1/3rd (for a whooping 132%). There are level 4 missions, and then there are level 4 missions.
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to group with others the entire memorizing time, but always play it safe and warp out early when trying a new mission.

Cheers for the help, im still a bit off doing the missions.
I think that i should be OK doign some of the smaller ones, as long as im careful and have a quick look see what i have to do 1st.
The main reason i doubted my self is that i can solo all the lvl 3 in my AF but when i comes to my BC i just cant kill the frigs and the cruisers are too far to hit with any thing apart from the long range ammo. My amour drops and i run.
When iv mined enough for a Geddon im gonna have a bash with that on a lvl 3, test the ship out, find the strengths and weaknesses and play from there, and try an easy lvl 4.
And i mission run round Maurasi, so Icesail i might be calling for assistance in the nearish future!!
Cheers Again guys!!

Ok first off I haven't been playing eve much in the past 6 months other than skill training so I'm catching up on all the changes so I'm curious what are you guys using for lvl 4's? I can fly a megathron with t2 rails or blasters along with decent armor tanking skills maxed cap skills and just recently trained for t2 medium drones.
Will the megathron get eaten in lvl 4's now with the changes or hold its own? Should I use t1 large drones now or do they have issues with frigs?
lvl 3's seem a little harder than they use to be but my eagle seems to eat them still and I'm gonna try doing them in my ol' harpy soon too.

I'm thinking about starting with lvl 4's too. What is better? 6x Cruise missiles lunchers or 6x Siege missile lunchers for lvl 4? - ------------------------------------------- Helios enterprises is recruiting. 0% tax, 100% fun. |

Cruise IIs for me, takes longer on the BS sometimes but is sooooo much faster killing curisers and frigs that it makes up for it. Also you have the option to use precision cruise, and alothough they are expensive they mince most cruisers in one volly without TPs.
