tbh, fofs irritate me too mucht o bother. apparently, they attack anything that targets you. so, that Silo just targeted me, and those large battleships whizzing towards me didnt? hmm...sneaky... =P

You'll notice FOF's take a damage penalty with respect to their targetted cousins. With the skills and bonus you get closer to the base damage of a standard targettable missile. I imagine the fof skills and ship bonuses apply as well as the bonuses don't privilege targetted vs non-targetted.
The discrepency between heavy fof damage and all other missile types is a little unusual though.

upside of them is that you can still fight back wehn you are jammed ;)

Edited by: Jessica Lonbow on 24/01/2006 22:59:33 The skill to use FoF missiles adds to the normal class skill for the same missile so you are getting 2 bonuses. As someone else has already mentioned, FoF missiles have a lower base damage than conventional missiles, thus the FoF skill helps to make this back up.
FoF missiles do not operate with the targeting system so they work while you are sensor jammed (both ECM and sensor dampers), though this can also be a down side when you are trying to fire at a specific target during times when you ARE NOT jammed.
For an FoF missile to fire it requires that a player, npc or object be "aggressed" before it will launch and auto track to the object/ship. This means that the item in question must already have fired or used a hostile module (ecm, target painter, warp jammer, stasis webifier, etc) against you or you against it. Only then will the FoF missiles recongnise a target and launch towards it. They also only launch towards the closest current aggressed "target", since you can't actively select a target for them to fire at, remember. You are further hampered by the limited activation range of FoF missiles, which I believe is partly based upon one skill or another, though I am unsure and even so; which skill this would be (fof skill or perhaps scout drone operations). Range appears to be 25-35km depending on missile size, if my memory serves.
But hopefully the above will help to clear up any questions you have about FoF missiles.
