I was on after down time, fiddled around , moved some assets, plugged in some implants on a blank clone, did a little ratting, you know, typical kind of chores.
Checked on iClone, and all my assets are back where they started, implants are still in the hangar, and no bounties shown in wallet. Just wondering if API is borked, or a rollback thing happened. |

Most likely just a API delay. |

I don't think they did it then but even further back.
And IIRC, CCP said due to their experience with that, it will never happen again.

IIRC, it was the day before EvE went online officially, as in went out of the beta.
It was planned to happen, but i doubt they'll ever do it again.

This was not an isolated thing.
If CCP tells you that a certain action is considered an exploit and you go ahead and do it anyway, you learn what 'consequences for your actions' really means.
Plenty more examples of this from over the years. EVE attracts the type of people who try to get away with whatever they can in twisting game mechanics into something they were not intended to be. It's good for the game but can come back to bite you on the ass if you push it too far.

For an isolated glitch it doesn't seem very sandboxy. Everyone should always be on their toes in EvE. I guess I don't know what "too far" means, sometimes.

Well, Gogela, I'll tell what too far means to me.
First off, someone discovers a clever exploit and uses it to their advantage. (Have to give the Little Bees credit here. They're probably the best at this) Then as the word gets out and more people start doing it, CCP decides they don't like it and announce that until they can fix it, they will ban people for using it.
But the little dweebs that can't think for themselves and discover these things before they are considered exploits cry 'unfair' and go ahead and do it anyway and get themselves banned. That's the pushing it part.
As to the one off things like concord taking a day off , it's only common sense to not take advantage as you know it's going to get you a vacation as well if you run around ganking everything with immunity. It's a game breaker. Granted, common sense is in short supply in this game, but CCP can not be held responsible for the stupidity of some of their players.

Players shouldn't assume that they can take advantage of a glitch to do something that normally is clearly outside the bounds of what is expected. Blowing up everything in sight because Concord is failing to show up is certainly one of those.
If only a few did this, CCP might have just gave things back and told those who did it that is was a bad idea, but since so many were blatantly doing this CCP had no choice but to be heavy handed.
Those of us who have been in the game long enough have seen this many times. If a few players take advantage of something occasionally, they normally get told, bad idea.
If a significant number of people start doing something on a regular basis, and then go brag about in the forums clearly showing how to take advantage of such glitch, expect to get hit with a sledgehammer.
And then they cry why?
Its a fairly clear concept to understand. The number of people taking advantage of the glitch plus the number affected times the isk involved equals the exponent that is applied to the consequence.

It's a game breaker. Granted, common sense is in short supply in this game, but CCP can not be held responsible for the stupidity of some of their players. It sounds like you had a bad experience. Yes for exploits like the one I mentioned that's a very reasonable policy. However, for a one-of event... something that only happens for a single day? Well that's just a sandbox variable. Sometimes you're the mouse and sometimes you're the cat, and that unfairness and variability makes the game more real. S*** man sometimes people get hit by cars... (in non-pvp parts of the earth as well!). Bad things can happen to good people... I think you're too stuck on the rules. A persistent problem is game breaking because it allows for a systemic advantage to those that know about it and screws up the balance CCP tries to maintain. A single day event isn't comparable. I think we could let such things slide. In fact it would be a better game if CCP intentionally threw a wrench into the works from time to time. Fortunately Rubicon looks like just my kind of wrench... but that's another topic.

A software glitch is a "sandbox variable." I can now say I've seen it all, though sadly, the EVE forum never disappoints. |

Yeah CONCORD day off wasnt even enough. That just resulted in a lot of bans and a looooong que on reimursements. |
