So what would the recommended loadout be for a new player to the Thorax? I see lots of suggestions in the Thorax thread, but they seem to be geared towards the higher end (2 million + SP's).
Can it be loaded out with small rails? I know it can be loaded out physically, but will it be effective enough? I have quite a bit invested in Hybrid smalls ATM, and would hate to see all those SP's go to waste if I have to start over in medium hybrids. I plan on doing this in the future, but I would rather focus on some of the other possibilities first.

If you put SMALL RAILS on a thorax you're castrating the famous wangship. Use medium blasters.

PvE definitely. I made the move to the Thorax merely to be able to do all my level II missions successfully. I do plan on moving up to mediums soon, and probably blasters. My problem right now is that my skills are gimp. I cant get MWD yet, so getting in close to use the blasters is not practical (yet).

for hunt rat in 0.0 i'm using :
4 light neut t2 / med nose named
mwd named / web / scrambler
800mm plate / med rep t2 / 3 slot for hardner
For missioning, i use a bc till on lvl 3 mish cruiser are really light ship..
Anyway mwd in mission is not a solution till you can't use em in dead space, so big tank in low with 1600 plate 3 hadner, med rep t2, in med ab and 2*cap rec if your skill suck else web and an other modul.
In high whatever is fitting 5*150mm rail are ok.
But here your dmg will mainly come from your drones.
edit : if you stick with lvl 2 missions, fit med rail in highg dmg mod in low and a med rep. 200mm rails are easier to fit than 250 ones on that ship

Excellent - so you believe that I can go with my Small 150mm rail's until I get something bigger?

go with 5x small neutron blasters and an mwd, AB will prolly work if u have a webber
