Does anyone use a PvP fit instead of a PvE fit in case someone jumps in the mission and attacks (I'm running lvl 2's)?
For example, a DCU provides a lot of strength to armor and structure but I don't ever see it recommended for PvE. Likewise with Shield Extenders vs Purgers.

This does happen but mainly with Gurista ships in the way of omni tanking which gives high resist effective health.
Damage control does happen as well but that is for incursions, not missions. |

This.
Occasional back when I lived in 0.0 we would rat in PvP stealth bombers when the area got a bit more hostile. The group we did it with could rat semi efficient and even if we did get jumped we could at least kill the enemy or die trying. Want to have some chat in game? If you are in highsec then tbh just stick to complete PVE fits.
If your corp is at war then only do missions if the area is clear of enemies Have fit ready to go if your corp is at war then you can pop in to the station and change into it quickly. Only in 0.0 / lowsec would I consider altering my PVE fit towards a PvP fit
You really don't want to compromise your mission fit for the off chance that someone will jump into your mission. Especially when you start doing level 4s. If you choose a good area to go missioning and not one fo the main hubs, then you should nearly never get anyone jumping in. I think it has happened to me once out of a war in the past few years.
Oh and if someone does jump into oyur mission andstart ninja looting chances are they WANT you to attack them so they can shoot back without concords interention |

I think there are some ships, that can benefit from active tanking in PvP. Like Myrmidon or Prophecy, for example. But those ships are for level 3 missions.
If you do your level 2 missions in high sec - there is no reason to make worries about ninja looting or salvaging. Not worth it, IMHO.
But if you go for level 3 or level 4 missions, you can try to focus on ships, that has bonuses for armor repairer or armor resistance. I think those can be equipt so, that the only difference from PvP fit will be absence of warp scrambler in middle slot.
PvP means you receive high damage in short period of time. PvE - constant damage through long period of time. Active armored ships can manage both, if they have correct bonuses.
Often difference between popular PvE vs popular PvP fits is quick short range weapons vs long range weapons with low tracking speed. But I saw recommended Amarr PvE fits with pulse lasers. So it is do-able, IMHO, to have PvE fit, that would make a stand even in PvP situations. But hardly with a cruiser or smaller ship. You need buffer to give your reppers some time. |

The only PVE I do in a PVP fit would be (belt) ratting. Basicly I just roam around a couple of lowsec systems looking for a fight and Clone tags. The only PVE stuff I take with me is a stack of cheap ammunition so I won't blow my T2 / Faction stuff on rats. |

The best PvP fit for PvE is an eye on local and an escape plan. |

I often use PVP fits. I Rat to get sec status mostly and you don't need awesome skills to rat, so the loss of perfect resists doesn't matter too much.
It is really funny when you get engaged... once they get pointed they often panic because they just don't expect a pvp fit. Unfortunately its usually something that has been able to burn out of scram range before they died...But one day. I got a daredevil well into structure before he/she got away.... Dam their web bonuses. |

One of the main problems with PvP fits is that they are optimized for SHORT engagements. You want to squeeze out every last bit of performance you can in the first couple minutes and have the enemy ship dead quickly. As a result, a lot of good PvP fits out there are not cap-stable. Because they don't have to be - the target is supposed to be dead before you cap out.
This doesn't work in PvE. PvE fights often take a much longer time than PvP fights, so you need a ship to be cap stable or capable of getting cap back somehow.
A lot of PvP fits will burn out their cap before all the rats are dead. |

In most cases, it's horribly inefficient to use a PVP fit for a PVE activity. A better option is to watch local/dscan and just leave if someone comes to crash your mission. Then, you can either refit for PVP, call in friends, or both. |

While I'm rebuilding sec status at the moment by running missions, I'm somewhat hoping that I will be attacked in my (active armor tanked) Ishtar.
I look like a sentry sniper, but I can swap Spike M for Javelin M in the rails and put the sentries away, and I can hit a hostile player that tries to sneak under my guns with a warp scrambler and a double web. And even if I am outmatched, ECM drones can usually get you away in one piece.
The only time I'd see myself as being in real danger is if my low slots are already significantly overheated or if I'm under major rat pressure at the time of the attack. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. The difference between an enemy and a friend is that you stab your enemies in the front. |

Only times i use a pvp fit for pve is if I am in lowsec doing non lvl 5 stuff. (well it can be argued that my carrier is perfectly fine for pvp too but.. thats another debate) or when I am doing the blood stained arc as ninja looters love to try and take advantage of newbies and I love turning the table on them :)
Otherwise as said, dont do missions when you are at war, keep an eye on local or just use a small nimble ship for your lowsec stuff (ishtar, tengu etc). |
