Just a quick question, is this skill only implemented for GM's and Polaris members?
Since nobody else could find a jumpdrive i wonder why it is still there, from day 1 after Release. Couldn't find any jumpdrives ingame in BETA 7 either not even on Armageddon day!

I could be wrong but I think i read somewhere that jumpdrives were supposed to be fitted to battleships as well. Probably draining almost all cap, but enough to make a jump.

After reading alot of fiction on the EVE-site, one could be lead to believe, that no modules were required, as all ships already have a jumpdrive. However, theese jumpdrives need gates to work properbly.. Perhaps, with the jump drive skill, one simply doesn't need the gates to jump anymore?

that would be great, but i believe like most skills there is a module to use it...
however, i vote for that there is no module needed!!!!

I'm close to finishing training the pre-reqs for this skill now in the hopes that when the time comes I'll have a 2-3 week head-start on most people in cleaning up in Jove space :-)
I'm just hoping that Chaos doesn't give too much warning which could blow my plans out of the water of course :-(

even if people see it on chaos, they have to train three navigation/research skills to level 5. astrometrics helps as well. then, they have to pay 10 million isk for the skill.
i am training it up right now, so far i have two left on rank 5. training navigation up now. :) "To be content,to be comfortable, is to be complacent. No one learns anything from pleasure..pain on the other hand is a most efficient instructor" |

Yup....I posted a few weeks ago about who is going to be using this..ie, titans or BB's, and if there were any modules ingame yet.
I decided to stick it out and sacrificed some skill gain in other areas and can report I now have a perfectly useless skill now trained to lvl 2. I managed to finish Jump Drive lvl 2 approximately two weeks back :). The good thing about the traing reqs, is the warp drive 5 lvl....I can go forever now without having the cap be completely drained. CJ

well, i can tell you now- if a jump drive cannot fit on my battleship i would be damned if it could fit on a titan. currently have 793 cpu and 31,288 powergrid on an apocalypse.... if that cannot support a jumpdrive then i am stumped. i think it would be fair to have jump drives for every type of ship. Frigate taking less power and cpu and it moves up from there.

Edited by: Syphin on 03/09/2003 01:55:07 Jump drives aren't meant for fast travel they will be used to access other solar systems that do not have gates to them yet. So basically a jumpdrive is a jump gate on a ship. Frigates are a bit small as would be cruisers. Even low lvl battlehips might not be good enough (the ones we have now). We might have to wait for newer higher lvl Battleships before we jump drive off into the great unkown. - - - - - - - Disclaimer I take no responsibility for the spelling or grammar usage in the above statement Nor do i agree with its ideas and or claims Or even acknowledge its existance. |

I suspect jump drives would allow people to bridge the gap between normal space and the for-now closed off Jovian section .. which they dont want happening :P . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Why do indys have such a large CPU allowance? Could it be that they too will be able to fit jump drives?

Jump drives are supposed to be fitted on Elite Frigates and probably the big ships. -

4 - Space vessels get a boost û the first jump drives.
Read that text.... or the following quoted from it for the lazy ones amongst us:
This is the warp possibility within a system.
All space ships are equipped with a jump drive device. The jump drive creates depleted vacuum by repeatedly æcompressingÆ vacuum between two polar discs, draining all energy neutrons and quarks out of it. A laser-locked field is then created to hold the ever-increasing depleted vacuum bubble until it has enveloped the whole ship.
This is the jumping-between-systems-without-gates possibility:
Further research into jump drives, especially those aimed at amalgamating the technology used for jump drives and the one used for jump gates, has led to more and more advanced jump drives becoming available. It is now possible to fit a ship with a jump drive capable of inter-stellar travel. The first versions of these allowed the jump drive to connect to a jump gate in another solar system and jump to it just as if the ship had moved through a jump gate. The later versions allow ships to jump from a system with a jump gate to another system that has no jump gate, and the latest version, still only available as a prototype, allows a ship to jump between systems even if no jump gate exists in either system. The first versions of these drives simply aligned the drive with the nearest resonance node in the system (often using nodes 1:4 or even 1:5), then created instant mini-wormholes through it for just enough time for the ship to slip through. More advanced versions, allowing jumps into systems with no jump gates, are a bit more complex. They send out a constant barrage of high frequency neutron rays, based on the flat-space principle of trans-relativistic physics, through infinitesimal cosmic strings to scout out the destination system. This survey can last for several days before enough data is gathered to allow the ship to create a wormhole (through a resonance node of course) to the destination system.
So lets all jump to the Jovian system ;) lol...
Hope this comes out some time soon....
