I havent being playing more than a week but thought I'd set up this riddle/question for a laugh. I know its not alot of money to win, but like I said its more about having some fun... The riddle is What is bigger than the universe? The compotision ends Sunday 31st August 11:59pm GMT...Any answers after that are not accepted and the person with the best answer wins the money. If you dont want to win the money, but want to leave an answer just say as this compotision is more for newbies(this does not exclude veterans I'm just saying 1/2 a mil wont be much difference to anyone whos being playing more than 2 weeks) Leave your in-name and answer. Or who you think answer should win and why after this message. And may the best man/women/x gender/alien win.

There are silly little rumors of a "multiverse" wherein lie multiple universes...Dunno how much stock I put in that though.

The Mind.
Its rather simple.
A humand cant realise how big the universe is and therefor there are no limits on how far the mind can go. Like many book writers and science fiction novelists are speculating about is that the universe, as we know it, is just a tiny thing in the whole complex thing called space.
The word "Universe" it self, and how people are trying to explain what it is, is rather weak. The universe as we are thinking about might and might not have a "ending"(Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy anyone? The restaurant at the end of the universe?).
The mind will allways have a hard time accept that the universe has any limits and therefor the human mind will allways want to believe that there arent any limits and thus The Human mind is bigger then the universe.

Edited by: Lorn Pavan on 27/08/2003 12:52:41 I'm leaning towards "nothing", as in the phrase "NOTHING is bigger than the Universe"
As you can see some quality thought went into this one. What do you think?

infinity is no good...it stretchs on forever and doesnt have an end...therefore doesnt have a size...but then again we're not sure the universe has an end either...but since infinity is everything and nothing at the same time its smaller than the universe as well...i dont know ill have to think about this one...what does everyone else think? its also the same with time...did time start first so the universe could begin...or did the universe start first so time had a place to exsist?...maybe there both the same size?...post your views still the answers are getting better keep it up

The human soul, and our ability for compassion, love, and care for our fellow kind.
This can only be equalled in enormity by our ability to destroy and to hate, and our desire to be greater than we are. ----------------------------------------------- To die is to merely end the cycle of pain.I have no fear of death - I welcome it. |

Try to picture the nothing that existed before the universe.
You can't. Whenever you try to think of that you may imagine a big empty greyish space, or a big white nothing but, that is something - color and space. You can't wrap you mind around the concept of absolute nothingness. Something so empty that it is devoid of all things both tangible and intangible as we know it. I can picture the universe in my mind, I just can't picture the nothingness beyond it.. that just boggles me and gives me headaches and if I thought too long on it I would probably go insane.
But then what universe? The Universe in which everything exists? All of us, all planets, all solar systems? The universe that I call my life or that you call your life? My universe revolves around my family and, to me, there is nothing bigger than the love I have for them. So the answer there would be Love. Some people's universe revolves around hatred so the answer for them is Hate.
There is no correct answer to this question; therefore, my answer is: Nothing.

Your wrong, but it's a very deep and meaningful reply.
Infinity is the largest thing possible, so large it cannot be measured, but it's still bigger than EVERYTHING else.

The answer is no it is not.
"What" has four letters in it and "universe" has 8 letters in it.

Direct quote from the oxford english dictionary "Infinity n. Endless space, time or number." "Endless adj. To have no size, shape or end" I thankyou(bows) .So as you can see infinity does not qualify.

Edited by: Mynobe Soletae on 28/08/2003 20:57:11 Infinity is not a number, it's a concept. The opposite of being finite, i.e. having a beginning and an end, or a measurable size. Something infinite cannot really be measured physically.
There are different levels of infinity, and some are bigger than others. A line is an infinity of dots. A plane is also an infinity of dots, but it's bigger than the line. It has more dimensions.
A "dimension" is an independent variable. Our universe is generally thought of as having 4 dimensions (x,y,z,t), but from a purely mathematical (or physics) point of view, there may be more.
Limiting ourselves to x,y,z,t, the "Universe" can be defined in two ways:
1. The Universe is the sum of all matter and energy created at the Big Bang, including the stars we see and those that we haven't discovered yet because they are too far. With this definition, the Universe is probably finite, it has a certain total amount of matter, a number that is big, but does not grow forever. Beyond the farthest star there's vacuum into which the galaxies are still expanding, like a pool of ink expanding on a napkin.
In this case, the answer to "What's bigger than the Universe" is probably "the Universe, tomorrow", or if we actually knew the total mass, we could give examples of more massive things, or things with bigger volume.
2. The "Universe" is the x,y,z,t spacetime, that is, it's the 4-dimensional infinity that currently defines the laws of physics, how we can exist, how matter interacts, etc. With this definition, all the galaxies taken together are but a small dot in an infinite volume, and as long as something can be measured, or even defined, via physics, it's in the universe.
Thus, to find something "bigger" than the universe, in this case, you need more dimensions. And, also, tricky as we humans are, as soon as we discover more dimensions and extra universes out there, we will immediately include them in the definition of "The Universe" (in Star Wars, hyperspace was a common part of the "universe").
So, nothing is bigger than the Universe, in this case. |

i would have thought the answer simple, altho i'm probably wrong.
Nothing.
Nothing is bigger than the universe, as the universe is an expression which encompasses everything that a man can describe.

There is no proof that infinity never ends... therefore there is no proof that infinity exists!

Time is a constant though, without time nothing would exist. And since something exists therefore nothing is an incorrect answer also.

time is also an expression created by man to judge his existance. therefore tim is irrelevant, just as the idea of infinity is irrelevant.
