Something that would be interesting to see is the ability (possibly thru Hacking) to redirect the location a Gate would send someone thru. Maybe even the minute possibility that a gate would suffer a malfunction and send someone halfway across the galaxy.
Scenario 1: A hacker tampers with the gate, causing it to send 1 out of every 8 jumpers to a different location. Then his pirate buddies could just jump out to that location and wait for the fly to enter the web.
Scenario 2: A busy gate malfunctions (due perhaps to overuse) in somewhere like Jita, and that glitch causes someone to be thrown from the center of safe space in The Forge to a random sector out in Heimatar space or something. The sector would not necessarily be 0.0, but the unsuspecting pilot could find himself in the middle of an asteroid belt or something.
This would be rare, (say something like 99.8% chance of successful jumping. So only 1 or 2 out of 1000 would be redirected elsewhere. And who knows...if they're on a long journey, they may even wind up within a jump or two of their final destination (maybe even right outside the station they're headed to.)

While I can see where you are going with this (related to the Peralles Incident?), but random auto-pwn situations (as, let's face it, randomly dumping someone out into nowhere is probably going to result in them dying, all hopes to the contrary) is going to frustrate and annoy, not entertain.
Plus, even 1 out of a thousand jumps is way too many. Think about how many jumps occur on a daily basis - it must be in the millions.

the other problem is that's not how the jump gates function, if they tried to send you somewhere where there's not open space, where there's a gravity well that's not already accounted for by their calculations, etc. etc., the jump would fail and you wouldn't go anywhere.

Well, it was just an idea. And apparently, not one of my better ones. I guess even I can't be perfect all the time. :)
