Edited by: Gnawl Sergner on 25/01/2006 23:28:25 Could someone suggest what to fit on a Caracal for PvE? Would a mix of heavy missiles and assault be okay, since I come across frigates a lot?
Stick to Tech 1 too please, I don't have too much money -_-
Edit - Oh and yes, I can be as far away as 65k and shoot heavies. Are there any other skills that increase missile range? I have:
Heavy Missiles 3 Missile Bombardment 3 Missile Launcher Operation 3 Missile Projection 2 Standard Missiles 3
What to increase, and what other skills to buy?

I prefer the heavy launcher setup:
5x heavy launchers with scourge (damage bonus) missiles AB, Medium Sh.Booster, Med.Sh.Extender, Shield hardener, Sensor Booster (because the caracal has a missile range bonus that is typically beyond it's own max targeting range) Ballistic Controls and/or Power Diagnostics

If I remember right this fits.
5 assults
1 AB 1 Large Extender 2 Active Hardeners 1 Medium Shield Booster
1 BDU 1 PDS
Its a good tank for a cruiser. You can switch some of the assults for heavies if you have the power and CPU.
Wherever you went - here you are.

Effective ratting setup for most L3 missions:
5x Heavy Launcher
Medium Shield Booster Medium Cap Injector (with Booster 800s) 2x Shield Hardener Target Painter/Shield Hardener/Shield Boost Amp
BCUs/CPU/PG modules to fit...
The Caracal has a massive cargo hold. You can carry 8 spare charges for the cap injector plus ammo; you can run the shield booster indefinately as long as you can hit the Make Cap Full Now button when you start to run low.
However, some level 3 missions can outdamage the single medium booster, so spending the last midslot on an extra hardener or something might be a good idea.

Trying to do lvl 3s in a cruiser with out even using T2 equipment is just silly.
A few of the easy ones may be possible but definetly not "most". With no antifrig guns or light missles and no drones you will have a bad time with elite frigs. And even drones will be hard, requiring you to get dreat distance then waste a lot of haevies slowly killing them.

all missions with some sentry guns will give you problems, also those stupid laser shooting ats. but generaly nothing you cannot manage with a few warp outs. ------------------------------ Removed due to offensive content - Laqum

I'm looking for an effective PvE Caracal setup that can handle lower-security space. I went down to a Malediction interceptor (mostly due to lapse in judgement, I let it get too closewhile I was busy blasting away at two NPC cruisers). I've had 5 heavy launchers w. Havocs, med booster, cap booster, AB and nanofiber plates. His TechII laser tore through the shield and armor, while my Havocs weren't very effective against his shield.
Is there a good setup that will allow me to earn isk doing PvE while not at the same time being a sitting duck for pirates from 0.0?
Or was it the case of wrong tactics? I know that I should have kept it at long range (range is life), but in 0.3-0.4 systems I don't want to open fire unless I'm attacked (and when attacked from the short range it is already too late)...
Any suggestions? |

Mine is as follows.
5xheavy launchers (with Scourge! use your missile bonus!) 1 Med SB, 1 Med Extender, 1 Invuln Field 1, 1 Therm and 1 em active hardners 2 PDU's
I fight Blood rats in 0.0 with no problem at all. Except BS's can prove to use all of your ammo and only be half armour :D ----- Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

3 large shield extenders will give you the sig radius of a dreadnought! (okay maybe not.. but it'll be comparable to a BS), which means that everything will hit you for full damage. You do not want extenders... you want one medium and a crapload of hardners. ----- Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

PvE Caracal is doing L2 and L3 missions, bloated up sig radius isn't anything to worry about, you're getting hit with assaults and heavies and cruiser guns for max or very near max already. Use those extenders if you want.

What could be a good PvP setup?
My corp is now at war for the dumbest reason. -_-

as for missile type... look up the rats to find out which dmg type they are weak to. Rats often have the same shield/armor resist. For example, the serpentis in syndicate have lowest resistance kinetic luckily (40 or sth shields/armor). I noticed blood tend to be weakest to EM in both shild/armor. ------------------------------------------- 1. Does this mean the new super hamsters have arrived? If your only going up against cruiser rats fine... but if your doing as I was and going against Battleships and so forth, then you need that small sig radius. ----- Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

My Caracal setup is as follows, and it tanks all L2 missions without any issue. My skills not withstanding, but here goes:
Highs:
3 'Malkuth' Assault Launchers (Bloodclaws for Kinetic dmg missile bonus) 2 'Malkuth' Heavy Missile Launchers (Scourges for same reason)
Mids:
10mn Afterburner (The MWD is unnecessary, as is the AB is only used when docking and such, spend most of the time in combat just floating in space) Large Shield Extender (Catalyst or some crap.. go named T1) Large Shield Booster (Again, named T1) Shield Boost Amplifier 1 (makes the large shield booster tick for about 240hp) Kinetic Deflection Screen (Named T1, passive, helps against Guristas missiles, I trade this off with an EMP screen for when Gallente are the targets)
Lows:
2x Power Diagnostic Unit I
This gives you right around 2500 or so shields, 770 recharge, and the booster heals 10% of your shields per shot, with a capacitor of 1101, you can tank L2 missions for hours on end and never have to worry about it.
If your shields get down to about 1/4 max capacity, you can just warp out for a sec, recharge the shields, warp back and continue.
Me.

I though gallente shoot therm/kin
Mine:
5 heavy launchers (scourges of course)
1 med SB II (easy to get the skills for this) 1 lg extendor (named, adds like 1700) 1 shield boost amp 1 invuln AB
2 pdu
Im thinking abour switching the boost amp out for another hardener, than having both hardeners racial specific for max resists. (i can fit all this with only 600k sp)
