Edited by: Lord Wassabi on 26/01/2006 03:59:00 Hello. I am thinking of buying a game time code from someone i found on the trade channel. all we did on the sell order channel was agree that i wanted one, and i would meet him in game. I feel as if i might be getting scammed. He wants my ISK before i get the code. What happens if i send the ISK and i dont get a code?? Does anybody know?
I would like to get an answer for sure. Ive heard people say many things. I was reading through the help forums before i posted, and i found a post saying:
Actually, here is the full definition i found on The eve techincal support:
1) A scam is what happens when someone takes advantage of your misplaced trust and robs you of your possessions via legal in-game means. When this occurs, there is nothing the GM¦s/Support Team can do for you. Although low and despicable, this is something that can happen in real life, and the world of EVE-Online has been made to resemble it in as many fundamental ways as possible. Example of a scam can be found here.
It seems that, under these rules, If i dont get the code as promised, then it is a scam and nothing can be done?

Have him post on the sales forum that he is selling you the card, and agree to it out of game. I believe the GM's will indeed take action then, because he is then committing a type of fraud.
Go read the sales forums...or search the "Ask a Question" section.

Make sure that all conversation over the matter is done in game, if not GM's can still probably help but it will be harder on them. CCP protects against scams that involve RL stuff such as failure to do a character transfer in character sales for ISK, or for game time codes and such.

Go read the rules on the Sell forum...
Rule posted by Eris:
5. Posting scam auctions and sales are not permitted here.
So if your seller is legit, have him post his sale info on the forum, and if he scams you, you can petition CCP who will deal with him - i.e. you will then get your money back, or he will have to provide you with a legit time card.

Solution = get goods first, then pay for them.

That's the first time I've heard that rule applied to trading in a game.

looks like many people who play EVE in the wee hours of GMT don't know about GTC sales.
The dude ain't gonna give you the code for which he paid RL cash for until u pay up - THATS HOW IT WORKS! Every dude should do that the same way. Not only that BUT, because RL cash is involved - any naughty sellers get bans/warnings etc etc, AND CCP covers both the buyer and seller - any problem, go screaming to CCP, and they should help.
Relax dude, you're ok.
