Trying to settle a dispute. A friendly corp in my area has striped mined all the "good" minerals out of the belts. My CEO sent him a message stating anyone caught strip mining in our backyard would be severely punished.
I spoke to the offender who omitted his corp was responsibile but said show me proof that strip mining has an effect on the speed of how quick they come back. I was told 2-8 days and others 3 weeks.
Can someone point me in the right direction? whats your take?

respawn depends of the area and ore you take. in empire there is no real difference if stripmined or not, but the value ore in 0.0 takes ages to respawn if the roid is poped, but get filled every downtime if remain.

Edited by: Winterborn on 26/01/2006 11:12:14 Its .4 area. I dont know if that would make a difference. SO if you pop a jaspet roids then they do take longer to respawn? any time frame? |

AS far as I'm aware, 'farming' a belt is no longer possible. A roid will come back (not necessarily in the same place or belt) within a few days, with a few days of 'growth' on it. So there's no penalty to popping a roid, other than maybe having to make new bookmarks.

It is a complete myth that roids take longer to be "refilled". Seems it was true in the old days, so leaving a few units inside a roid made sense. This ain't true anymore. If you pop a roid it will respawn on the day that type of ore always respawns. Never bothered to find out the different days for the different ore types but for omber it is every tuesday and thursday after dt. This means that after down time on these days every single belt will be refilled with this ore type. In general lower ore types like Veldspare respawn very quick while as the rare once take very long. It appears that it's regulated based on the minerals you get out of the roid. This means that isogene is respawning on tuesday and thursday, so not only omber might respawn then but also kernite and prolly jaspet too. When I was young I wanted to be me, my childhood dream came true |

This is how I understand it works too, at least in empire. Some time back the way roids grow was changed and I think now that if you pop a roid it is not guaranteed to respawn as the same type of roid, but I think the system tries to maintain the Percentage of mineral types within a belt, but exact roid positions are not kept. As previously mentioned all ore in empire respawns a couple of times a week, but if you want some you need to be quick. A couple of peeps with barges can strip an empire system of kernite in a couple of hours, which is probably why some people think it does not respawn.
In the past (a cuple of years ago) the belts tried to simply maintain the total number of units of ore, so if you mined all the good stuff you could get left with a couple of gigantic (I am talkig moon sized) roids of veld.

Your CEO is either a very old player who remembers how it once was. Or is prone to listening to rumors and myths.
It was once this way, it's not any more. Help kill the myth.

Asteroids respawn/replenish every Tues/thurs DT. if i pop a crokite roid on wed night.. its back thurs morning.
not 100% sure of Weekend Asteroid replenishing.. ill keep and eye out this weekend to see if anything respawns in my part of town. ====================================================================

Erm ...
I'm mining in The Forge, and I pop roids without really caring ... I can testify that Pyroxeres, Plagioclase and Scordite roids respawn every day during the downtime, at least in the system where I mine ... between 8000 and 20000 units in a "fresh of the day" roid, and they grow by about 1500~4500 units every downtime if left unharmed ...

By Sunday and Monday, asteroid belts start looking very bare (at least in Empire). I have never noticed asteroids spawning on any other day, though to be honest, I don't pay much attention to the Veldspar asteroids and whatnot.
