With the amount of bugs I am wondering if I bought a game that has just been released to start making some income for the company and is still an unofficial beta. With 1 hour downtime every day it seems like they are still finishing this 'project'.
Any comment??

i do agrea with the feel of the game its still full of bugs but this is the first MMO iev played and ive been told ALL MMO has tons of bugs when they first came out and it takes upt a year to fix them all ( and even then there is still many bugs in the game *( UO )* )
but u gotta remember this is a small Company in ICEland not SOME HUGE USA CORP thats been doing this for 10+ Years this is CCP First GAME of this type...... so yes they will be many mistakes and problems but they will be sure to fix them as fast as they can ( as fast as human'ly Possable )
Sorry for spelling i failed English ( from england )
Give them Time This Game wil Be The Best game on the Planet and if your not willing to wait or help do as many ppl have Leave.. ( but this is not in CCP best interest ) so think b4 u act and b4 u reply

Edited by: Scragg on 28/08/2003 15:27:55 Well during the beta I did not believe they where ACTUALLY going to relase it. I figured it needed another good six months of development but... it's the money thing. They need income to continue so... we get a half baked game.
That hour a day is just database maintenance and backup. It's running on a big honking cluster of SQL servers. When they get extended downtimes is when they are tweaking and testing changes they roll out.

Considering that this is not only CCP's first MMORPG, it is actually their first *game*, I am quite impressed with what they have done. Their graphics engine is amazing, the combat system is very sophisticated, and the market is among the most advanced in a game that I have seen. I think that it was a staggeringly stupid idea to use Microsoft SQL for their database backend, as it just isn't qualified for a job of this size. I really do wish they would bite the bullet and use a real DB backend, like DB2 or Oracle, but hopefully enough servers thrown at the problem will be good enough. CCP did release the game with a great multitude of bugs, but they are being fixed quickly. A patch every two weeks is quite a feverish pace. What matters is that Eve is a fun and very open-ended game. Anything they add, short of bug fixes, are just icing. There is so much to do and so many ways to do it (if you think about it) that it will be my MMORPG for years to come. -- "Never use a sledgehammer to drive a thumb tack." |

I must say I'm getting the impression of a VERY unprofessional service. 1 hour downtime a day is a joke. What happened to online backups? If I would claim I needed to take our mainframes/servers down an hour a day, my boss would fire me on the spot.

hmm rofl compared to SWG we are lucky with CCP - a friend of me plays SWG and says the last half hour before DT is not saved ^^ he uses it always to make some experiments and some serives ingame dont work a few hours after DT :D
So i am quite happy with CCP - thoug it could be better... - - - like a little ant :D |

1 hour downtime is not good, but if you compare it to 2 hours of downtime that SWG has it's quite good.
CCP is really doing well I think, SOE is much better and their new games (Planetside and SWG) is a bit buggier than eve.
But it's still not as good as it should be :)
