I am a real noob as far as manufacturing and research is concerned so please be patient with me.
I understand that researching materials on a blueprint will reduce my waste and there fore make producing items cheeper/more profitable.
Is there a skill that I have to research before I can do material research on a BPC? The reason for this question is last night when I went to do some research but I was unable to find lab space. Is this beacuse there is very limited space or due to a lack of skills on my part? I have science level 3 and Metallurgy level 2 but I don't have Laboratory Opperations do I need this to level 1 before I can do research?

I think you mean Material Research on a BPO, because BPC cannot be researched.
I had the problem too when I tried to research an BPO with the research slots that where all full.
Well the thing is you can put your research in a Queue, just select "Material Researching" and than select the slot you want to use (best to use the first one that will end) and press the button "Use Assembly Line", that way your research will be done after the one that is currently being researched.
I think if there are more BPO's in the Queue it will be put after them. You can select the tab "My Jobs" and than the button [Get Jobs] to see the progress of your research.
Lab Operations is so far I know not needed if you only need to use 1 slot only, if you want to research more BPO's at the same time you have to get the skill up.

Thanks that is exactly what I needed to know!
My blueprint is just a NPC bought Tec 1 frigate I assumed that it was a BPC but it may well be a BPO (well it must be as it gave me the option to research materials!  )

A follow up question: Can corporations have their own lab space that is available to only their members, or does everyone have to compete for the public slots?

while we are on this topic is there a good manufacturing/research guide around somewhere? im just getting started in this area and i am pretty lost...thanks!

Great question. My impression is that private facilities are only available at a POS. But I don't know a whole lot, so maybe someone else could confirm? |
