Didnt want to hijack the Machariel thread.
Why do many people criticize tc's in close range setups?
I thought it had just been revealed that tracking not only affects the amount of hits, but also the quality of them?
I am desperately looking for more dps, tanking is not that much of an issue to me. But I already have 3 gyros and I wonder whether I should include a TC in my vaga pve setup.
Two advantages: I deal more wrecking damage when stationary, and I even am able to keep up damage in orbit when having to increase transversal?
Right or wrong?

Generally the slots can be better used for closerange setups, and/or the tracking is not worth the payoff. Plus with only 3 Gyros max now, there's room for tracking enhancers.

I think we're still at the 'alleged' stage until Naughty Boy graphs and proves it (and probably graphs something that predicts the future too - I think thats the only two things his graph doesnt do atm). I personally believe from raw data that tracking does affect hit quality.

Why not. Cant hurt, and 180s/220s are pretty good antifrig already, with more tracking you'll be able to scare tacklers nicely.

well tbh... if you plan to use machariel in PVE, then you have slot for comp if you will armor tank. And 30% better tracking(or 35% with SS comp, it is pimp wagon, remember), is very nice to have. Especially with gallente bs bonus etc.
For pvp, med slots are always used with EW junk, so...

Tracking Computer gives a 15% Boost to Optimal Range and 15% boost to Tracking Speed. On a long range Sniper set up this is great new.
For a close range setup a Webbie is much better. 90% Webbie effectively boosts tracking by 900%
Good faction webbie can snag a target 15km or further.
I experimented breifely with Tracking Computers on my Vindicator and they are a waste close up the range boost is insignificant on a close cut gun.

Your webber is quite useless when you have to slow down to allow your guns to track. So the question is valid and the answer if and how it helps is relevant. The descriptions and the player guide in EVE can be misleading sometimes. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. If you want a easier time tracking on a short range setup... target painters FTW. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

Edited by: Oberon Oblique on 27/01/2006 14:10:33 Edited by: Oberon Oblique on 27/01/2006 14:06:31 The options are Tracking computer, Tracking Enhancer, Painter, Web.
Now its easy if all you got is an extra low, fit a Tracking Enh and be done with it. (gun users only)
For that Extra mid, its a bit more situational.
1) Painter: Best for mid range (10-50k), missile users and for gangs (everyone benifits). If your a gun user this is my choice only if im in gangs alot otherwise I go with a tracking computer.
2) Web: If your in range to use it, it beats all, if you already have 1, fitting 2 can be lots of fun stopping inties cold. IMO if you have 1, fit a painter. Works for Guns and missiles.
3) Track computer: Best for long range (and increasing range) guns users only. For sniping nothing beats it. If you are already using 1, a web makes a great backup for the hard charger.
These are just my thoughts, you need to think about how you fight and if you fight alone or in gangs before you make the call.

i foudn that puttign tracking Enhancers on my Ganky rupture made it put out more Excellent shots than normal ones, therefore giving a substantially larger dmg bonus than a gyro, sine u got 5% dmg bonus per lvl anyway go the trackers!

This is incorrect. You moving actually causes an increase in travs velocity at times. If you dual web a target and are sitting still then target's trans velocity is usually less then 5. So, if you are fighting a group of close ranged targets with large guns it's usually better just to: sit in one spot (if they are in your optimal), dual web, wait 2-3 seconds, then insta gib.

Yeah, that's how I see it aswell. Except that tracking enhancers aren't nearly as good as tracking computers as far as tracking is concerned, so that's still a no-go on close range setups for me (except for that EW stacking thingy ).
