It's basically knocking people who lack the rocks to say what they think (usually a whine, rant or somthing equally useless) with their main character and instead hide behind some alt.
It's kind of like talking about somone behind their back so to speak.

no, it just seems that if people want to post something serious, not just as flamebait, they ought to associate themselves ingame with the post

I read the posts. Not the biographies of the posters. I can't see any reason to whine about alts posting. I can recognize only couple players like Hippo and Rodney and Ayla from elsewhere, for the rest I'm in for the content and screw the social networks and all that behind the people.

Hey if it ain't worth getting shot for, don't post it.
Seriously, cause people tend to say exactly the stuff they know people would love to shot them for with alts. Which removes any credibility from alt posting. It's got its uses but if you want a serious discussion, post with the main.

Because if someone posts something to hide their indentity, more likely than not, its flamebaiting/trolling.
But then I don't understand alt posting full stop. Some guy made a "How do I fit my Battleship?" style thread in Ships & Modules the other day, I looked him up ingame and his character was made 5 minutes before the post. Why would you need to make an alt for something like that?

I always posted in polarised deabtes with my main.
I've never had any negative reaction yet, let alone a wardec or something.
those things are merely an excuse for people to post drivel with alts. It's also called trolling and should imo just lead to instant permabans.

My old alliances PA (Under Cochise not the current lot) and Xelas both strongly discouraged forum posting to the point of possible ejection from the alliance. All this acheived was a lot of people posting with "forum warrior" alts.
Not all alt posts are because the poster doen't have the balls (although a lot are) Some are because they can't join in the discussion/fun because of alliance / corps rules. IIRC Fountain alliance would fine people 1 mill isk if they posted on the forums.

I think you'd get more of a negative reaction posting something controversial with an alt which was later found out to be yours. Most people wouldn't go out of their way to hunt someone down over an opinion.
But then again, I think the world would be a much better place if people quit worrying about what others do, say on a forum.

as if all the 'mains' are not alts to hide behind, nobody is using their RL name, so all are just alts.
got rocks?, post with your rl name, or be silent on the use of alts
(it's a game kiddies, all the players are using alts...)
