Over the last few days, I have been discussing with GM how corporation standing are calculated based on corporation members standing. All the Gm who responded to my question were very kind and even gave me some value based on my current corporation members standing to explain how and mostly why some faction were dropping rapidly where other were staying very high.
Based on the recent discussion, it seem that corporation standing is made calculating the averages standing of players who ôalreadyö have standing towards NPC Corporation. Example:
Player A who is member of Corporation X is working with a Pator Tech School agent. HeÆs the only 1 who currently has Pator Tech School standing from all other members in corporation X with a standing of 8.0. Since heÆs the only members with a standing toward Pator Tech School, the Corporation X have a standing of 8.0 with Pator Tech School.
One day, Player B, member of Corporation X decide to do one level 1 mission with Pator Tech School for no real reason other then doing something. After the mission, Player B is awarded a 0.01 Pator Tech School standing. Now hereÆs where I think problem appear.
Now Corporation X has 2 members who as Pator Tech School standing, one member with 8.0 and the second member with 0.01. The current system will add both values together and make an average. The average value will be the new standing of Pator Tech School toward Corporation X ((8.0 + 0.01) / 2) = 4.005
Player A is angry because he was hopping to use that Corporation standing for the new Jump Clone feature but now canÆt anymore. Currently, once a player gets standing listed in his Character Sheet, thereÆs no way to remove it from there. Even with a standing of 0.0 or negative standing. This player will always affect corporation standing calculation for Pator Tech School. The only work around possible for the moment is:
1) Ask player B to raise his standing to 8.0 ((8.0 + 8.0) / 2) = 8.0 Corporation standing so player A can use the Jump Clone feature. 2) Kick or ask player B to leave corporation so Corporation X will only have 1 member with a standing to Pator Tech School. 3) Player A creates his own Corporation Y with only him. Corporation Y will have 1 member with standing to Pator Tech School.
My suggestion.
What I propose is to create a little buffer zone where players standing are NOT calculated for corporation standing. The buffer zone limit that I have in mind is the ôNeutralö zone delimited by standing of -0.5 to 0.5.
Having this kind of buffer zone would be very benefiting for many corporations. I am sure that many players have once started doing mission for a NPC corporation only to change corporation after a few missions, leaving them with little standing and screwing his corporation standing for ever.
The second way it would really benefit corporation is that it will allow a micro management of players standing. If a player as NPC Corporation X standing above that buffer zone but do not want to work (do mission) and raise his standing or to quit his corporation, he could get back to an agent working for NPC Corporation X and accept a few mission and cancel them until he reach the point where he get back into the buffer zone. Once in the buffer zone, his standing are not calculated for the Corporation standing and allow other players who worked for their standing a good Corporation standing they can use later.
The reason why I would like this implemented it because itÆs too easy for one player to ruin the work of other players simply by doing 1 mission (most of the time involuntary). If other players worked hard for week to get got standing, 1 player shouldnÆt be able to affect them so rapidly.
With Kali and Factional Warfare coming, I am sure corporation standing will make a huge difference on many aspect of the game. By ôhidingö players with little standing, we will have Corporation standing stronger and more will be able to participate in the new features.
