I am making a new toon that I would like to PVP with, but also want him to be only an Amarr purist. I don't know anything about PVP other than the one side I get stuck on sometimes venturing out of my element. I've flown the other ships for PVE, but haven't played with Amarr ships yet. I don't really care if there are better ships for PVP than Amarr, it's more a game/fun thing to me. I know about the other ships and just want to learn Amarr and PVP at the same time.
So anyone have a good starting ship with a basic fit for a carebears attempt at PVP.
Requirements only.
1) Above Cruiser Level (don't want to fly frigs or dessie) 2) T1 Class with named mods/rigs/drones only. 3) Ship with Fits under 100m ISK total (this is what I can afford to lose each time I blow up as I learn) 4) Effective for part of a new corp entry level dude that can contribute.
Thanks for your time and help folks.

This is where you will struggle. Fit a load of destroyers and frigs and head to FW low sec and learn via lots of losses. That's how pvp is nurtured. Then you can ship up.

I suppose you're right.... Frigs just seem like pitiful damage compared to the bigger ships. I really don't mind losing a few cruisers or BC each evening I play though, as I sort of just want to play my ship of choice and get better at it, rather than learn Frigs and then each class up to my ship. The goal was to build up the Cruiser or BC to T2 and then find solo fights when I understand it better.
I expect to find a pirate corp on this toon and just sort of hang out in camps with them and see how it rolls. For the most part, from what I've seen it's mostly gangs on roams jumping solo pilots anyways with an occasional fair fight and if we find one of those, then I most likely will lose my ship... lol |

Frigate fighting demands much more from the pilot than cruiser or bc. Positioning/range control/extremely tight fittings. Also the smaller the ship the more exciting :D |

Best amarr ship in the game right now is the Omen navy issue. It is a great kiting ship, and i have gotten many great solo and small gang kills while flying one.
thre are many different ways to fit it, if you want some fits- just shoot me a mail. There are some variation in gang / solo fits and ome of it comes down to personal preferance. |

Soloing gets exponentially harder as ships get bigger.
Just FYI.
And i don't mean in that you actually need to be better IN a fight but it just gets a lot harder to not get blobbed.
As for amarr cruisers you can solo in.. Uhm.. Arbitrator is alright? Omen and Maller are both kinda **** because they have 3 mids and need cap boosters.
Navy augoror is solid since it compensates for its lack of webbing with being able to fit two neuts.
Harbinger is alright but.. i wouldn't solo in it
Prophecy is pretty good but people will just assume you're bait
If you're willing to go dessies both the dragoon and the coercer are beasts.
In general the amarr choice for soloing is kinda underwhelming. BYDI recruitment closed-ish |

I'd go for the Arbitrator. Versatile and powerful. And people look at it like 'lol what's that'.
[Arbitrator, Solo] Damage Control II Medium Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste Drone Damage Amplifier II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Drone Damage Amplifier II
10MN Afterburner II Warp Scrambler II Stasis Webifier II Balmer Series Tracking Disruptor I, Optimal Range Disruption Script
Medium Diminishing Power System Drain I Medium Diminishing Power System Drain I Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Light Missile Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Light Missile
Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Valkyrie II x5 Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5
Downgrade to Meta 4 what isn't necessary. Bonuspoints for carrying an MWD, a 2nd web and a 2nd TD in your cargo for this special refitting-pleasures so you can adapt to your target.
Idea is simple: Look for Turret based ships. If it's missiles, you don't go for it. If it's trying to kite you, load Optimum Range script and force them to gtfo or come in closer. If they're brawling, hit them with tracking script and orbit 500. Throw Hammerheads at anything unless it's Minmatar or Caldari Tech 2 ship you're fighting. |

This is the one I am skilling my pirate to fly.... just seems very versatile and helpful to small gangs, plus might survive if solo.

Abritrator Hands down in THE most versitile Amarr cruiser (imo one of if not the most versitile cruiser of all the races)
But like the old Phoon takes a metric F##kton of skills to make work properly.
You can pretty much fit it out to do whatever the hell you want. That is the Way, the Tao.

Yup, sounds like a "use a Arby" situation.
It wont take long to get decent drone skills and your lack of pvp experience wont change most of the fights you have.
You can even fit a TD or two with that bonus to help mitigate damage from longer range turret ships or close range brawlers. Again training TDs to an effective level wont take long.
As soon as you use lasers on any amarr ship, you should have decent cap and gunnery and thats just not newb friendly for the most part. Cosmic signature detected. . . . http://i.imgur.com/Z7NfIS6.jpg I got 99 likes, and this post aint one.

You would be surprised how good the tormentor/executioner is. The latter being very versatile in how you can fit it.
Thing is you need to learn. And it takes a LOT of losses to get good. Frigates are easier on the wallet while you learn/ For the price of one BC you could have more than ten fights in a frigate.
Remember every time you get into a fight you learn something new. You look back at the loss and know what you did wrong and adapt tactics accordingly.
You find yourself thinking things like: 1-I allowed him to kite me 2-I didn't overheat my afterburner so he got into blaster range etc etc
You are more likely to get blobbed in a cruiser/bc and that's no fun. Frigates provide more bang for your buck as you learn the small million things that make a good pvp'er.
PVP is like martial arts. While you may think about how you are going to fight. A good martial artists allows instinct to take over during a fight and reacts. You don't think in a fight 'I'm going to punch him in the neck when I see an opening' get my drift?
Get good, loss alot of fights and you find most of your actions mid fight are a reaction. The correct reactions are learned from mistakes.
Good luck. |

Good luck.
That exactly what I think! But then again I've been in a lot of fights unfortunately.
As for the cruiser v frig for learning pvp there are +/-'s to both. The main thing frig fights have going for them is the cheapness. But cruiser fights generally last a bit longer so you can get a handle on the situation before you pop.
I learnt PVP going the frig route and I still mainly pvp in frigs (cso I love the fighter jet feel to the combat) but I know a lot of people who have learn'd via the cruiser route and they are just as effective in pvp as anyone. Really it all depends on how you learn stuff.
If OP wants crusiers then IMO Arbitrator>Omen>Maller for cheap cruisers. NOmen and Navy Aug are also excellent but need a bit more experience to use effectively and also cost a fair bit more as well. That is the Way, the Tao.
Balance is everything.

For a solo cruiser, go with the Arbitrator or the Omen.
The Omen can get some pretty awesome speed for a cruiser, and with Scorch ammo, can actually hit a good distance out. Fly it like a fast kite frigate and you should be fine.
The Arbitrator is by far one of my favorite ships in the game. By not having to rely on guns for dps, you have two things you don't have to worry about when compared to gun/missile boats: ammo, and fitting issues.
My current arbitrator fit:
[Arbitrator, pvp] Damage Control II 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Armor Explosive Hardener II
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I X5 Prototype Engine Enervator Small Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 150 Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
Small Diminishing Power System Drain I Small Diminishing Power System Drain I Small Diminishing Power System Drain I Small Diminishing Power System Drain I
Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I
Hammerhead II x10 Hobgoblin II x10
It works for its intended purpose. You can swap out modules that you can't fit for Meta 4 ones if needed. With good drone skills, and the Amarr Cruiser skill at 5, you can pull about 240 dps, with an EHP of over 40K. Makes you a tough nut to crack. |

You mean like a slow kite frigate? (the omen that is)
Its not really fast for a cruiser, lots of cruiser are faster than it. And three mids.. But you can sorta make it work
Imo if you're going amarr and non faction cruiser the Arbi is the only really solid choice.

amarr is bit challenging race to start pvp, bigger amarr ships usually are better compared to other races.
Smaller amarr ships have usually problems with fitting needed tackle.
But on right hand every ship can be deadly weapon, just find right way to use it and enemies will fall |

Well the Amarr frigate lineup is good, but since your passing up on that I will move on.
The Amarr cruisers have always struck me as an iffy bunch for soloing because of the lack of mids, however the Harbinger is a fantastic BC;

to OP,
Disregard the bads telling you that amarr ships are not good solo / small gang ships- they are completly wrong. Amarr currently has some of the most OP weapon system in game, thanks to pulse lasers + optimal bonus + scorch.
Also disregard the bads telling you that the arbitrator is a good ship. It is not. Just like the pilgrim it is a complete waste. Even the best ship of that class (the curse) is not really a solo ship. It is however an amazing small gang / fleet boat.
Best amarr ships currently are:
Executioner Crucifier Sentinel Retribution Slicer Curse Navy Omen Oracle Bhallgorn |

The curse is an extremely deadly solo boat if flown by someone who knows what they are doing. With the coming nos buff it will become even more so. The biggest problem is finding a target with big enough balls, or little sense, to not warp off when pop up on d scan.
The pilgrim is also extremely effective if you have the patience to select the right target. |
