Phaxy Dyze contacted one of the members last night and claimed to be and Alt of me and said he wanted 50 mil isk. This player didn't recognize the name and sent him off to a director.
The director wasn't sure and so sent the money to Icebox just because he's a cautious player (some people are )
Phaxy got nothing, I have to send the 50 mil back and there is a new ploy for using alts in the game now.

No Not really. But I didn't see anything about it and we've only just encountered it. Seemed worth a post to warn others that may not as well.

Seems more like a method of finding the game's stupidest player rather than a scam ... |

You have a point, however just like any security system or military intel your best weapon is social engineering (aka Guiding Hand). After reading the convo I noticed this guy started making mistakes, first small then larger ones as he went.
Never hurts to warn others to keep a eye out, more so to new players that are not used to having scams in a MMORPG.

Simple solution: Ask him to log in the other pilot and confirm the claim. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

Exactly.
Icebox's alt can ask for ISK to be sent to Icebox; Icebox can ask for ISK to be sent to his alt. But no sane player will EVER send money to "your m8's new alt character" just on the say-so of the new alt character.
Of course, not everyone is sane ________________________________________________

or simply "show member details" as the alt would have the same rights at the main (specially ceo, reason to have alts to do stuff at diff locations(usually)) ________________

Hmm... Impersonations aren't allowed. Not sure about the use of people claiming to be alts of people, but... fire away if it is enough of a concern.

Just asked ccp id it was leagle, and they said, if the player is stupid enough to give the alt money, then it is his own fault...
It has happened to me, however I spotted a few mistakes, as my CEO don't live in england :P

I was thinking about this today actually, do the devs etc have special tags on their names to identify them so people know not to attack them if they wanted to spectate something?

If the GM/Dev is there officially, they will be there as themselves and probably in a Polaris/Jove ship. If a dev/GM is using their normal account, there is no tag and no special rules. -- Originally by: Nyphur The irony is astounding.
