To all the bittervets who killed WIS...
Kind of wish you hadn't been so effective now... found an old thread about uploading your own videos and watching them in CQ...
Here's one of me watching Robot Chicken in Parchanier VI station....
Thinking if this is just one thing we can do... imagine what would have been possible on down the road with full on WIS!
Anyway. So that's what I've been doing instead of continuing my move to the Eugidi Constellation.

Just because you can do something, doesn't make it a good idea.
WIS was always going to be a way to bring the community together further and create opportunities for more interaction and emergent gameplay.
Sitting in a station and watching a low quality video on a screen in CQ doesn't strike me as a great way to encourage interaction, or watch a video. It may be interesting at an individual, geek interest level, but aside from that, it doesn't offer much to gameplay.
Anyway, kudos to you for 2 things:
1. getting the video streaming through the system (you geek); and
2. thinking about ways to further improve the game and actually doing something about it. |

You weren't watching Robot Chicken, you were watching the Region Political Summary. It says so right on top of your screen. Regional Politics might have similarities with Robot Chicken, but those are (of course) purely coincidental...

It's reallly too subjective to answer that question...
For me, it would be a huge tangible effect... for others, less than nothing.
Even so, I can now watch **** in CQ so I now have no reason to ever close my client.

I wouldn't expect a Summer 2011 character to be aware of this.
CCP killed WiS before it was even released to us, largely due to The Hype vs. The Reality
And the other "bad things" that happened at that time (internal emails, "Greed is Good", $1000 Jeans, etc).

My CQ screen shows a 20 split screen showing everyone else in their CQs who are watching the TVs.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but I feel I must point out:
Client modification, the EULA and you
If it can't be done through the client UI, I don't recommend doing it, even if CCP says it is okay. Interpretations of the EULA change, so it is also good to petition to be sure. I also recommend out-of-game backups of any CCP correspondence, in case you need to include it in a future petition while banned.

In this specific case, adding .BIK video files to the appropriate directory so you can watch them in-game in your CQ, it is allowed.
In other words, doing so in the way as stated in the Dev-blog is not considered a breach of the EULA.
