The start time is 0930 GMT and the length of the downtime is expected to be 2.5 hours. During this time, a patch will be applied to Revelations consisting of enhancements, fixes and improvements, including additional Need for Speed updates based upon an upgrade of EVE Online's programming language, Stackless Python, from version 2.3 to version 2.5. |

[37] Completely redundant network backbone. Two cores, each server plugged into both. One bad network wire can bring it all down. Plug one core into the other, STP should trunk the port. But it doesn't always, and things do go down. Triple redundant power supply. Control logic circuit failure, and all three go down. Server with RAID5. One hard drive sort of fails, but the hard drive tries too hard to do sector re allocation. This slows down the array to the point that the cache buffers fill up and delayed writes go to server RAM. This fills up, so it starts to go to virtual disk, which is already overloaded. Out of RAM and the file system corrupts. 80KVA UPS and redundant generators so no power failure. Some idiot drops a wrench across the 220V lines and everything is dead. Redundant computers setup in a HA config. Running for a long period of time, no problems. Then both fail. An error in Microcode that counts time causes both systems to fail. Two hard drives in an array fail at the same time due to manufacture defects. All thing's I've experienced myself. It happens. |
