Please, if you want to comment on a thread OOC on the IC forum just post here instead, maybe with a link back to the thread.
Also to the moderators, why not just delete OOC posts altogether as if they were never there. It means that someone can start a IC thread and for no fault of their own get it taken away from them. This means if I don't like a player I can just post an OOC comment and know that that player's post will be blocked and disappear within a day or so. By all means lock threads that start OOC, but surely post deletion is better for the rest?

I agree entirely with Athule. It annoys me intensely when threads get locked for no fault or crime of the originator.
I do see that the moderators have a difficult task and I do wish that posters would learn to post by the rules of the specific forum also.
Guys, I know it is difficult to avoid the urge to post an OOC response to somebody else's OOC jibe or barb. But really, just do what I do and count to 10 and get back into character - the person who avoids being dragged down to the lowest common denominator is ultimately the strongest. In the long term, that shows.
So please, moderator chaps, just deleting all ooc posts in Galactic forum would be my preference. The current system is much to open to spoiler abuse by people who just want to wreck threads.
Kind Regards

We understand your concerns,
we're going to talk it over, to see what options we have, so we can make the rules work for everyone.

The Summit is the way it is today due to the history of it. We do delete post, but when it becomes to the point that there is repeated OOC I will declare the post Locked because people cannot learn how to cope with the dividing line between OOC and IC. I know you are concerned with someone coming along and deliberatly posting OOC to get a topic locked but we work to make sure that doesnt happen. Mine and those volunteers that cover the IS primary concern is to create the best rp board for everyone, and you cannot have it with OOC, nor OOC tags and all that jazz. The IS is what it is today from trial and error, if your thinking it most likely I have applied it and or thought of it. Trust that we are doing what we can to protect your work and keep those who would seek to destroy it from doing just that. You as the community must look out for those OOC'ers and stand against them as well. The summit is there for you so it is in your right to want to protect it.

Thank you for the comments Orestes and Drakmarr;
I do appreciate the effort you chaps go to and do enjoy the exclusively IC nature of the Summit à itÆs refreshing to escape some of the more overtly OOC *****ing tone of some boards.
Can I request the full deletion of my ôVenal Alliance Declaresö (War vs TF) thread please?
I would like to repost the text of the VA declaration in the summit to give TF corporations and characters the chance to respond, but I donÆt want to post a duplicate.
Thanks in advance.

I agree with Athule and Jade of course.
There are some really sucky RPers out there that cannot keep the Summit in the spirit for which it was meant.
Nothing screams "kiddie gamer" more than someone not being able to stay in-character on that Summit and it drives me nuts. I've seen many good threads on there ruined by what I would classify as "RP griefers"...people that just troll waiting to **** people off because of their own personality and self-esteem shortcomings.

Its precisely the kind of comment about 'kiddie-gamers' that makes peopel want to troll your posts in the first place.
There are rp'ers and none rp'ers, whilst I find the idea of rp scary and more than a little odd, I respect that its different strokes for different folks, so I live and let live.
However to bracket all non-rpers as 'kiddie-gamers' is just asking for trouble. --

I never noticed it before, but Roark and Stavros look spookily similar...
Stavros: There is no escape. DonÆt make me destroy you. Roark, you have not yet realized your importance. You have only begun to discover your power. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy.
Roark: IÆll never join you.
Stavros: If you only knew the power of M0o. Prophet Ames never told you what happened to your father.
Roark: He told me enough. He told me you killed him.
Stavros: No, I am your father.
Roark: No, no, thatÆs not true. ThatÆs impossible.
Stavros: Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Roark: Noooooooooo!!!!!

Edited by: Klydor on 29/08/2003 16:36:06 It's a shame we don't have private messaging on these forums. That way the entire post could be removed and the person sent an explination stating you've posted in an unacceptable manour in an in character forum.
However I also feel the moderators have a hard time with the senate forum, it's difficult to tell the difference between IC *****ing and OCC *****ing, at least untill it flows out of control :P
In the end though just delete the OOC posts and leave the original thread open. If a few subsequent IC posts don't seem to make sense then its a small price to pay
and finally

I agree with Athule. You have no idea how often I have wanted to slap someone for tagging OOC to their posts. I finally decided it was just better to ignore any post that has OOC anywhere in it. Also it drives me mad when people go OOC to accuse some other gamer of not being IC
In reply to Stavros: If they post on the Summit they should be roleplaying, if they aren't a roleplayer they shouldn't go there. Only a child would fail to see the logic of this

Thanks again Orestes, I will post the thread again.
Elsewise
On the rp vs non rp debate(ette) I think the live and let live thing is a fairly good rule of thumb. I wouldn't dream of posting on a non-roleplay forum saying "hell guys you are crap players for not roleplaying" etc etc. I appreciate there are people who just don't get, or don't enjoy, or don't fancy the concept of roleplaying. I can interact with those people entirely sensibly and can avoid absolutely, diminishing their significance on the basis of roleplaying absence.
What I would ask though is that non-roleplaying types stay away from the Summit if they really don't like the concept.
The different strokes for different folks thing requires an absence of **** taking and destructive interjection. Really, it just seems tacky and tawdry and sad to post a one line YAAAAARRRR HARRRRRR etc etc in a thread containing complex IC debate. Why bother? If you aren't adding anything, if you don't want to roleplay, and if you don't understand the purpose of the stuff anyhow, then why bother posting anything in an IC forum the first place?
Stavros old chap, you seem fairly clued on PvP and high level ship combat. If you think roleplaying sucks then just stick to technical analysis of game issues... it really makes you come across better than posting like a burbling idiot child in free expression class across a topics in Intergalactic Summit.
No offense, but seriously, its pointless to wreck people's debates and ic play for the pure intention of getting noticed and making a splash.
Kind Regards

My problem lies in the fact I'm roleplaying my character as a 25yr old Englishman transported oodles of light years into the future and into the world of Eve.
Does that count or should I use more "thee", "thou" and "'tis"?

I suck at roleplay. Ask my girlfriend.
I can't even do the Boddingtons one........

Well.... I think I have to admit that Stavros at least made me laugh this time. A member of m0o calling someone a 'player hater'
I would like to point out that pirates perhaps should be able to communicate, saying YAAAARRRR every now and then is ok, saying almost nothing else is.. well.. stupid.
