I probably win first prize tbh. I was looking for something that sounded a bit apocalyptic, and i heard someone mention Neon Genesis.
I only realised about 3 months into game just how insanely popular the show is  I'm not even a fan LOL!
But, if this pot may call the kettle black, I nominate anything with leetspeak, names like ***** drive me nuts.

And pretty much what everyone else has mentioned, these are just the two that bother me most.
Finding an unused name can be a problem sometimes, especially in EVE since everyone is on one shard, but really, spend a few extra seconds and come up with something imaginative.
Everyone isn't a roleplayer, and neither am I, but it's really not that hard to come up with something original and looks like it fits whatever genre the game is set in.

I originally had very un-original name. With numbers and letters and stuff. Mostly because I thought I was puting in a USER Name and not char. name - go figure. Total noob. But, after a while I have realised the eorr of my ways and have adequatley rectified the situation.
I wanted to have something noble and at the same time semi-readable and something that would roll off the tongue/ or in one's minds eye.
Atreus (Not very original, sorry, one of fairly common names in Rome and Ancient Greece)
Daneurun - well, this is more fun, I heard an expression "Mucho Deniros" once - (Allot of Money?) Anyway, I thought since EVE is a capitalist game I should follow with it - so hence Danerun.
There you go - not very original but sounds ok to me.

Personally I have a thing against people who name themselves with titles in their names. They're supposed to be earned. Also, it's plain wrong when an admiral sits in a belt mining. Admirals tell others to tell others to mine for him.

I name my character before I read LotR, but that doesn't change anything, does it? I still haven't read it.
