Ok I spent the time to learn this skill thinking it would help me out while mining. I deployed a couple of these guys to see what would happen.
Rats showed up, and hammered me. My Sentry drones couldn't even hit them at close range. Then I tried putting them at longer range. Still no luck since they can't track anything that moves faster than a snail in space.
I also thought to myself, well maybe they will stay active when I warp to the station to get my hauler. NOPE When I get back they have forgotten who I am, I can't order them to attack anything.
Now don't get me wrong here, there must be a reason for this skill and the amount of time that was spent to put these things into the game. What I am asking here is how do you use them and what is their purpose if they can't hit anything without orders from you specifically. Regular drones are hands above the rest compared to this addition to the game.

Look at the stats for sentry drones. They can't track very well, but they do a lot of damage. That means they're meant for taking on targets with low traversal and lots of hit points. Does this sound like belt rats? No, it doesn't, does it.
Mission runners use sentry drones for taking out batteries and battleships. Cruisers and frigates (which is what you'll be fighting) need lights or mediums, preferably T2.
Hope that helps.

Edited by: Ceridan02 on 30/01/2006 08:52:39 You may have better chances to wipe out enemy¦s in medium to close range with garde Sentry Drones. They do thermal damaga and have an optimal range of 20 Km with the best tracking of all sentry drones. Sentry¦s are awesome. As already told you can take down Battleships and medium to long range Cruisers easily.
Try deploying them in 20 Km range, fit a tracking enhancer for your drones in medium slots and even frigates should be no problem. Instead of 3 sentry drones i would prefer 5 medium drones against cruisers and frigates.

I love to bring back week old post..
For any of u fourm divers out there
I use long range sentry drones to splash frigs at over 70km.. they rock at ripping apart elite frigs at range. 1 volly per frigs. they still chew up bs fastter then heavy drones but the range is a big problem. I might suggest running a weber drone to slow down the bs while u have 4 guns firing.

Sentry drones are not the Be-All-End-All drone. They are very specialised. I find that 5 garde I's can deal extreme damage to my targets. I like to run a dominix w/ these and a dual web setup to slow down targets. Once they are webbed, they can hit cruisers and up from 30km - 5km. Very handy rapers ---------------------------
