So, while showing someone a claw is faster than a crusader, I noticed some calculations were off during actual testing. I found this was due to the increase in mass of the ships due to the MWD being active, as seen here: Crusader Mass Claw Mass
The MWD gives a boost of 1,500,000, and for some reason adds 500,000kg to the mass. Due to this, the interceptors mass winds up higher than the boost of a MWD, thus making the interceptors receive a lower boost from the MWD, nullifying its purpose (not entirely, but you know).
Stabber Mass*
*Stabber was a bad choice, but im sure the other cruisers mass would increase over the boost of the MWD, causing the same penalty.
How long has this been in game... And am I the first to notice it?
Why is there no mention in the MWD bonus...
Im sad.

From an RP standpoint, how does activating a module add 33% of the mass of a ship?
Im gonna make some mass. ---

Im gonna make some mass.
Because of the micro-warp field generated by the device, which I assume is powered by some kind of micro singularity.

Both AB's and MWD's add mass and it was indeed how they made oversized AB's turn your ship into a bowl of jelly
This was introduced over a year ago before Exodus was released during the propulsion rebalancing (same time as dual MWD's AB/MWD setups were removed)

Actually.
Pre-MWD change 1mn MWD: Ship mass - 1,200,000 KG MWD thrust - 1,000,000 N Efficiency - 83.3%
Post-MWD change 1mn MWD: Ship mass - 1,200,000 KG MWD mass addition - 500,000 KG MWD thrust - 1,500,000 N Efficiency - 88.2%
So, in fact, the MWD is more efficient now, although the ship's acceleration and turning when MWD is active has been reduced. It is only when the ship weighed less than the MWD pre-nerf thrust that the ship will be lowered in speed efficiency. Then again, there's nearly no ship with lower-than-standard weight (1 million kilograms per 1mn on speed module).

iirc the crusader is faster than a claw when the mwd is turned on, but I would be wrong if things has changed?
Last time I tried claw was faster without mwd, but crusader faster with mwd turned on.

It was noticed when the speed module changes were first put into testing on singularity over a year ago, and I documented it in my top speed guide which was written in January 2005 ;p.

So if this was put in to change oversized AB's, why was it placed on MWD's?
Especially a 1mn MWD which wont be oversized on anything...
... Oh and:

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b187/hamatitio/ClawSpeed.jpg My button broke to hyper link things, so its a copy and paste.
Claw = 11m/sec faster w/ mwd on.
