only two months late to alter ONE LINE OF CODE.
why wasnt this done all that time ago? its a serious bug and you cant rightly expect people to not use items that are in the game there to use. After all.. would YOU risk going into a combat situation WITHOUT one fitted knowing your enemay could well have them fitted? would you? can you imagine people in a FPS game going.. "no wait.. dont shoot i need to reload... ok - done. lets shoot at each other now"
Its the same as what CCP where asking us to do.
"please dont undock, this can cause peoples autopilot to turn off and sometimes a CTD. Do not gang invite people as it makes their drones window close, dont declare wars on corps as you cant undo them. doing any of the above is considered an exploit and we will ban yo ass"
heh, this is all it would have took all that time ago, amazing.

I have no idea how much code is needed to change ths sound attribute of a module but I'm guessing that even one line of code in a game this complex needs to be applied carefully.
It would've been NICE for it to be done more quickly, you're right, but it's being done at last.
Yay! I can use my Blackbird again.

Programming isn't as arcane and cryptic as you might think. Simply disabling or changing a sound is a trivial operation and can be done in a couple of seconds. At most you need to type some /* */ around the relevant bit of code. If CCP fixed the actual CAUSE of the problem it'll have had a bit more work involved, though that still doesn't explain why it took 2 months.

Gosh!! only one line of code hey?
Unless you are a game Developer working on this game RIGHT NOW, i suggest you havent got a clue how many lines of code there are to fix, what the particular glitch is exactly, how many lines of code there are effecting the other coding for the other modules etc.
In fact,i would suggest you just dont have a clue.
Be grateful that they seem to have develped a fix. Better late than never.
Now you all will have to find something else to whine about. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

yes, its probably something like:
if module is activated then play sound "xxxxx"
why not just switch the sound to a sound that does work and dosen't crash the game??

Edited by: Rinekar on 28/08/2003 15:17:24 Well at least we will be able to use them again without problems. The problem is being addressed right now that they have a fix instead us having to wait until next weeks patch. I am more than willing to loose 20 minutes of play time to get something like this fixed...

No code changes need to have been done to disable sensor boosters :P Just make their powere requirements impossible to meet till a fix :P ----------------------------- You think Marco Polo said "Damn Mongolians were camping that cave entry into the next valley the entire day, you can't get friggin anywhere in the world with those damn griefer tribes all over the place" ? -Indigo Seqi

Yes the massive amounts of CTDs and network instability was not their fault. They were in the middle of a DDS attack and handled it well. The servers were back up in no time and stable for the rest of the night...

Honestly SkyLeach, you're disappointing me. Please tell me you have more backbone than to use the "mechanics" just because you can... I have higher respect for most other Critical Mass People I have seen. Everyone standing behind use of canlagging, dronelagging, CTD bugs and similar, you really need to dig up some backbone

Edited by: Joshua Calvert on 28/08/2003 15:20:25 I agree - CCP have improved HUGELY in terms of communication and customer care.
I have a feeling that those who complain the loudest could never be appeased anyway.
They like to whine too much
Perhaps this is but the first skittle in a strike against bugs. (Pun intended)
It also means we won't see so many m0o members banned for using sensor boosters

Maybe you're awed and amazed by all things coded. But a lot of us aren't. TTI-Nexus seemes to have cleaned up the database but it did used to show such attributes for items such as grapphic fx and sound fx. Removing the attribute till it was fixed shouldn't have been that difficult.
Neither would disabling the modules until fixed, though that would have put EW at a disavantage.

I think the level of cumminication is directly related to the cancelation button. When you have a sudden increase of players packing it in they tend to get a little motivated.

Imeasy, your website is running on Geocities. So dont lecture me about programing, coding, or anything above the technical level of mixing eggs ok?
Now, if i am wrong on what was needed to fix the code for this problem, then the devs, who yes know a whole crap load more than i do about coding, python, game development etc would be in every position to call me a n00b. (go on fuhry you know you want to)
Even if it was 12 lines of code (which i doubt) it still is a very small fix. just comment out the sound file lines // ## whatever it is in the code CCP use.
No im not arogant enough to think i know more than the devs, especially not about their own frikken code.
fact is this problem has been about for ages and when they post a warning about not using them or be banned... ten minutes later an emergeancy patch is pumped out.... why wasnt it put out ages ago? by the look it took less than 30 minutes to fix code wise and 15 minutes server down.
This was a very serious game stopping bug. we arent supposed to have game stoppers in retail.
Anyways... thankyou for fixing the bug CCP/Devs \0/

Basically, I feel for such an important module causing such a catastrophic bug, CCP should've moved heaven and earth to get it fixed as soon as possible. This is hardly how I'd describe their efforts.
Instead, weeks went by before they even acknowledged there was a problem, then more weeks while they just told us not to use the modules. Then more time went by while it was fixed in Chaos, but they seemed to be planning to wait for the next normal patch rather than doing an emergency patch. People start complaining vociferously about this, and it is fixed.
So hopefully that problem is laid to rest, although belatedly. Hopefully also CCP has learned something from the whole process.

Do we really need another seperate post for this topic? Probably not, didn't really even need one for that matter, you ***** about it needing to be fixed; then when it's fixed you ***** about how long it took to fix "one line of Code" - like you'd know what the fix involved.
You're one of those people that would ***** about someone throwing a gold brick at you.

it is so sad that some people think they know everything, even to read computer programming code of any kind and any type. Most of times you have to work binding different languages together where a set of command lines might change the in programm behavior if the called procedure invloves activation of other modules too that are programmed from different coding assets.
To make a long story short, most of you dont know how to even separate (visually) a command line from a "code" or even to recognize if there is or isnt one in a piece of mambo-jumbo (of any type) that someone will show you and asked you to describe what you see.

Edited by: Jael Markinsen on 29/08/2003 13:01:52 You know what i honestly think should happen is, Simon and shuster inc. should get off their fat asses and hire CCP some more help in the bug fixing dept.
prolly got like 3-4 guys going through all the **** thats screwy with this game, now maybe they can hire some half dozen more or something, just to help get some of the code straightened out, like contract work for more programmers to get CCP caught up.
