Is is possible to fit a cruiser (I fly a rupture) to hunt npc BS's? Assuming I would need a long range setup to take them out could I get any suggestions on how to setup a rupture to take down big rats.

It is, quite easily as a matter of fact.
My brother flies a rupture and though we generally NPC rat together (I'm in a ferox) in 0.0 space, he sometimes will fly solo. Depending on the spawn depends on how easy he can take it.
He can tank multiple BSes quite easily with an afterburner and autocannons, orbitting at a close range. however if there are a bunch of cruisers and frigates as well they can take him down fast.
His basic setup is to take down the frigates or cruisers as fast as possible. Once that is done he can orbit the BS(es) and its smooth sailing from there. Unfortunately he only has enough firepower to take down maybe an 800k or 950k BS solo.
I believe his setup is something like:
high:
2x medium nos
the rest of the slots for 425mm autocannon named (he uses scouts)
med:
medium shield booster II
afterburner
webifier
low:
3x gyrostab II
1x tracking enhancer II
I believe thats his setup. Only 4 slots low right? If theres a 5th then I don't know whats in it.

That sounds really cool because I wanted to do a close ranged ship but didn't think a cruiser could manage that versus battleships. I'm surprised he went with a shield booster considering the lack of mid slots on minnie ships they usually favor armor tanking.
I'm kind of a noob yet but what exactly do gyrostabalizers do?
And yea there are 5 low slots on a rupture. I'm going to decide on a set up in a bit and will update when I do.

Pre RMR i was often hunting guristas BS in my thorax. At least every dual bs and some spawns with 3 bs where possible.
Of course the reduction of thorax drone reduced its damage output significant, but i think its still possible with light blasters as i only used 150mm railguns.
Unfortunately i cant help you very much with a rupture fitting, since i dont fly minmatar ships. Anyway, i think it is possible with a rupture as you can use medium autocannons and still have a big plate and a very strong tank.

Gyrostabilizers basically make the turrets do more damage. 3 is about the most you want because the dropoff from stacking increases a LOT after that.
Maybe he has 2 tracking enhancers II, not sure.

Low Slots

-Tracking Enhancer
-Med Armor Repair (possibly)
-2x mods towards armor tanking (undecided)
Still got some tweaking to make. If I go towards armor tanking then I have an extra mid slot but if I go towards shield tanking I can use up my low slots towards more damage. I discovered what a gyrostab is btw

So now I just have one more question, how does the combat work out?
If there's small ships I assume you stay out of the BS range and take them out first then move in towards the BS. Kick on the AB, hit the BS with a web, and orbit at optimal range for the guns. Blast the BS and drain while orbitting.
Will there be enough cap to do all this though? Especially if you gotta hit the shield booster or armor repair, I can't see being able to do that all without a cap booster as well.

Thats why i suggested to use a big plate. As long as you have plenty of armor you can take your time killing the support frigs and cruisers. When you are finished with that, go into a close orbit to the bs where it doesnt hit you. Drain its energy and repair the armor hitpoints that you lost dealing with the support.

Once I get in close will I have to keep the afterburner running or is the range going to be enough to throw off the accuracy?

I may need to swap out my tracking enhancer or gyrostab so I can fit on a power diagnostic to increase my powergrid so I can fit everything.

Best way to answer the bit about will a BS miss you is just to try it and see... To give you an example an AF is all but unkillable against 0.0 spawns, because it can easily kill the frigs and cruisers, and the BS's only hit you if your sitting still or flying dumb at long range (IE aproaching or something). The second you orbit at just about any range only the missiles hit, and they hit for like 8-9 damage tops.
Apply this a cruiser, and while the cruiser isn't quite as good, the same kind of thing applies. Kill off the frigs and cruisers, and then orbit the Bs's. keep transversal for the BS very high against you, and only the missiles will hit, which is all you will need to tank. Also make sure you don't choose too close an orbit from too far a starting range your just about as dead as aproaching head on. If your far out, manualy plot the course, or gradualy decrease the orbit range one or two notches each time.
Also for the rax I would NOT use the MWD at all, you light up like a christams tree in a mad scientists living room to the Bs's tracking then.
