I think a simple fix for this would be:
If your ship has disapeared from space before you log back in, it takes a few minutes to get warmed up, during this time you cant warp, accept gangs or activate modules. After a few minutes it then warps back to the point where the person logged off.
- If you in a fight with players and crash you then have 15mins to log back in else the above will happen.
- If you are in a fight with npcs and crash you then have 2mins to log back in else the above will happen.
- If you just crash without agression you then have 1min to log back in else the above will happen.
- If you log out in a station you do not suffer from any form of warm up timer
- If players try to circumvent it by taking aggression logging out and then logging back in before the timer runs out (rinse and repeat till an available target), their ships will always remain in space and will be scannable to scouts and they will be seen on map under "ships in space".
This would be quiet easy to implement as it runs off another feature and from what I see doesnt have any draw backs.
So what do you think? Could this work? Pls dont reply with the ethics of using log on/off "tactics" or the reasons why people use them.

Er...it can take longer than 2 mins to log back in when you're fighting NPC's for starters, given even a little lag.
I don't like the idea at all, in any case. It sounds a lot like a timer before you can do anything when you log in.

Well maybe the times need tweeking
But from the time you crash till the time you select your char has to be less than 2mins. And yes it is a timer before you can do anything when you log in.

How about you being able to scan for people having logged off recently, their names/signatures or whatever lingering while they're still safe and you get the info you need about some 30 people having logged off 5 minutes ago.

Or at least have the hunter have to work some for his findings and have them appear on a scan as dorment, as suggested above.

Edited by: Tenacha Khan on 30/01/2006 23:58:59 but 30mions isnt actually long enough, people who use this cheat sometimes stare at their log on screen for over an hr as they play something else.
Thats why I proposed a disabler, as it doesnt harm people who are just playing the game properly and only screws over the people who want to cheat

Why would you want to "fix" something that has been even AOK'd by CCP?

Because it has been OK'd in lieu of a solution that can deal with it effectively.
If such a solution was offered and CCP would not see an issue, it would have their preference over the current situation, that much is quite clear.

They said it was technically legal, not desireable.
I still think this needs to addressed by giving more information to players, rather than a game mechanic. Something on the map is the way to go, either 'players logged off' or beaking down jumps into in & out.
Whilst a game-mechanic like the OP suggested would help resolve the issue, it would also adversely effect other legitimate players.

I still like my cap idea:
For each minute logged off, drop the cap by 2%. Down to a limit of 30 minutes/40% cap, where it levels out.
Most CTD's are resolved with a reboot, even the most archaic computers can reboot and re-game within 15 minutes. Logging in at any point will still give you enough cap to perform some functions, but will likely nrf your offensive capability.
Obviously, setups that do not rely on cap (missiles) or uber-recharge ships, would negate this.

something like this system would also be nice for people logging out in complexes and just logging back in to kill the main objective and logging out till the next timers up........
tho i think 10ish min for pvp, that should allow a reboot if necessary and a laggy login. then you cannot warp to gang member or use bookmarks for 10 minutes, then after 10min you dont warp back to your origional position you zig zag back n forth to gates in perma warp , should make people using this silly crap in low secs lives more exicting if they have to end up at a gate and cant use bm to easily warp away to a safe spot :P.
pve 15 min 2 min is way too short to even login some days and if for some reason you have to reboot, 2 min is just way too short.
other than that i was pondering this idea for different reasons, the above complex crap....i would like to see something like system or some form of it looked at by ccp, something like this would solve a few cheap game exploits that people use to get a leg up.
