Hi,
I have just got a Kestrel, and after I have fitted 4 missiles, I am getting hammered badly by rats in a 0.5.
I wondered id anyone had any more suggestions
My setup is this so far
Hi 4 x launchers
Med Civilian shield booster Cap re-charger 1 Small shield extender
Low Over-Injector 1 Power diagnostics system 1

what rats are you fighting ?
do you have the new missile skills up ?
are you orbiting at the missiles furthest range ? ===============================================

Don't use civilian modules, ever. Unless it's for a joke. Fit a small shield booster, if you can't use it i'd start training. The 4 launchers are nice though, remeber to mix the ammo types so you can do maximum damage to the npcs shields + armour.

I dont know your skills capability mate , seems like not much or it your first kessie ? Mine can hunt in 0.1 systems easy you forgot to use one of main advantages of kessie speed, i using folowing:
High slots: 4xMalkhum standarts( they use les CPU then arbas plus cheaper)
Medium: AB II sSB II Weapon Disroptor or Webifier
Low slots: Micro Auxialary power core ( give you neded Pg to support this setup) Capacitor power relay I ( recharge your caps)
I preffer Disroptor so i can screw with support ships tracking, usualy set orbit at 32 km ( my Light missles got 35km range) and u good to go most of the time rats dont even touch my shields but if they do it never go lower then 50%, my speed with AB II 695m/s. If u fight fast moving targets in 0.5 i think u better be with Webber in case they get to you before you blow them up.

If you're getting hit by lots of missiles, fitting appropriate shield resistance amplifiers will reduce the damage you take. Just make sure you fit the right one for the type of damage you're taking. (eg bloodclaws = kinetic = kinetic deflection amplifier I)

Edit: I get the feeling the OP is fairly new so AB2, SB2 and MAPC would be out of the question for now.

The main trouble is i have 34 power (36 with PDS 1) and the missiles use up 32 of it :s

Edited by: Vartha Trin on 31/01/2006 13:49:04 Speed, a Kestrel is only as good as its speed. My current Kestrel only has 3 Missile Launchers on it because the Afterburner sucks up so much grid. It is possible to fit 4 Launchers on it but you need 2 MAPC's fitted.
A Kestrel when travelling fast is very difficult for even frigates to hit. If you can find a way to dodge missiles (Maybe Defenders) then you could even take on Cruisers.
This is the optimal setup.
Highs 4 x Missile Lunachers (Best you can find)
Meds 1 x Afterburner (Best you can find)
Lows 2 x MAPC's
This won't leave much left of either CPU or Grid, but attach anything you can onto it. I suggest a tracking disruptor just to make sure.

Edited by: Tangley on 31/01/2006 13:57:15 If it's any help, I know for a fact that the OP doesn't have the skills to fit a MAPC, but can fit an AB2 (MWDs, too). I suspect an AB2 might be a bit much for a MAPC-less Kessie?
I'm unsure of the powergrid reqs and limits, but would it be possible to fit the following:
High: 4 launchers
Mid: AB1, Cap Recharger
Low: RCU, CPR or maybe another RCU
(I'm not his alt, I'm just a friend. )

Drop all your mids.... Go for an AB and 2 rat specific hardners, or 1 rat specific and keep the extender. For lows go either full cap recharge, or full shield recharge.
Course it's all skill dependant

a basic setup for kestrel (easy skill training)
4 launchers named
1 small shield booster , 2 small extenders (or hardeners if u know who ur figthing)
and 2 power diagnostic (cap and shield regen.)
this is an easy setup that gives good dmg and good shield (gogo caldari)
bad side of this setup , speed (i get 340 m/s no ab)
