Skill at preventing damage from penetrating the shield, including the use of shield hardeners and other advanced shield modules. Reduces the chance of damage penetrating the shield when it falls below 25% by 5% per skill level, with 0% chance at level 5.
So um does this mean when the shield drops to 25% this reduces the chance of taking damage or bullets//missiles going thru my shields by 20% at level 4 and 0% of any damage going thru my shields when they hit 25% at level 5 ?
Sorry if this seems straight forward but it doesn't make sense to me ! |

It's kind of an obscure mechanic. Without the skill trained there's a chance that when you're at 25% shields or lower that some damage will be done to armor (or, lacking armor, hull). Each level reduces that threshold so that at level 4 that only happens when your shields are at 5% or lower and never happens at level 5. |

Thing is, the damage your armor gets is extra damage, on top on whatever shield damage you get. This used to be different and lead to the prevailing opinion that level V is worse than IV. This is no longer the case however but huge amounts of inertia still exist. |

I think the biggest issue is that of the passive regen of shield and the regen curve, you regain more shield HP if you have non Zero shield, thus the argument was that you would end up with more total HP if you were regenerating a little bit faster instead of just continuing through down to Armor and then Hull. |

TSM 5 used to be a prerequisite to Capital Shield Operation, required to use a capital shield booster.
Since that was changed, there really isn't any reason to train TSM past level 4, unless you repeatedly find yourself in situations where you have 5% or less shield for a significant amount of time, and survive, but most shield tanks are doomed when they drop below 25%.
TSM has been shown to be slightly detrimental to EHP, especially for armor tanks, but not to an amount worth worrying about, and only under controlled circumstances. [Unlikely to make any difference in actual combat.]
Train it to level 4 to use T2 hardeners, and forget it. [This lowers your bleed threshold to 5% shield.] |

It's basically about the term known as "bleeding" say I am in a drake and your in a ferox, if you pund me down to 25% shield, there is a chance one of your hits will cause me armor damage. This chance goes down every level, so at level 4 this only happens at 5% shield and at level 5 it never happens. |
