Edited by: Onyx Asablot on 31/01/2006 16:48:42 Hi,
I've been ratting a fair bit lately (in 0.1 and 0.2, flying a Brutix with Blasters) and was wondering what tips people have for maximising kills / isks.
I have used eve-search.com but haven't found anyone actually talking about ratting technique.
Here are some of mine...
- Don't use cap boosters so space for more loot - Don't pick up cap boosters they are a waste of cargo space - Ignore the purely frigate spawns (not enough bounty, loot isn't up to much) and move on as quickly as possible in the hope of a elite faction BC spawn. - Move through each belt in the system then move on to next system. - Only return to base station when hold is full - Work out how much ammo is needed to fill your cargo with loot, and only take that amount with you.
Q: What are your tips for ratting? Q: Is it indeed best to ignore frigate spawns and move onto another system, or should you kill all spawns and cycle through the belts in the same system repeatedely?
All this is aimed at finding out the best way to get yourself that rare shadow serpentis or dark blood spawn. One of these on its own can be worth 60million isk, equal to 10 hours odd standard ratting!

Tips: - Use Rails, Allows you to dictate range and kill them off faster + you can swap the MWD out for something more beneficial - Kill the frig spawns but dont collect the loot, that way you have more chance of a decent lot of NPC's spawning ----------------

Hmm yeah I have been thinking about the move to rails for just that reason. The blasters make me tougher when attacked by ceptors or AF pirates though.. but i think you are right on the rails?
The MWD has saved me a few times when facing small gate camps (where i don't have instaBMs) as I am able to get through the gate before I am killed. By something more beneficial that a MWD would you recommend a 10MN ABII ?

Edited by: Fooball on 01/02/2006 14:06:23 My tactic has been to aggravate them all, wait until they fly around me (most of them will like circling at 1-10km) and when they are buzzing all around me then kill them. The result is that the loot cans aren't far away. Then you can drop the ab/mwd completely from your setup as the flying doesn't take too long.
Most of the rats will use their magical "super afterburner" once you get them ****ed off. I'm a missile user and I can do it to some 100km if I wish to.. One missile to rat will make it come to me like puppy It takes only a few seconds thanks to that "anti-kiting" feature
(Brutix should be able to handle that tactic well if you know what you're doing with your tanking.)

not realy as important in .1 or .2 as it is in 0.0, but any good spawns you come across, dont kill them all off, make sure to leave one of the ship alive, usualy a frig or something, this way it will respawn later as the same set of rats.
In 0.0 we have had all but one of the spawns double or triple battleship spawns in a large system with over 30 belts :D

Good tips so far.
Indeed, killing off every little spawn will give more space for better spawns. Using pulse lasers, I'm certain to start off with a completely empty load.
One tip of mine would be: Don't rely on nos for .2 or .1 spawns. They run out of cap waaay to fast to help sustain a good tank. I always make sure my cap is stable when tanking fully, and that I can use a bit of nos when my cap can't cope with full guns firing.

- Always align to something so you can escape quick (either from pirates or if those pesky NPCs are getting too tough for you) - IMO range is good, you take less damage and won't get warp scrammed. - Use drones for the frigs if you can. Wait till all the NPCs are firing on you...then deploy the drones. This way your drones won't take any damage - Take out the toughest NPCs first (debateable but works for me) - Always watch local...never rat in low sec space when there are hostiles around

Personal tips... -1st of all, find a good system and make a safe spot
-Get to this safespot with an indy + secure containers, and anchor them
-Clean betls out of everything (included frigs) to get new spawns
-If a good spawn is spotted, you can farm it (kill all except one ship, damage him to structure and keep it alive until respawn. then pickup another one). Spawn warp to other belts sometimes. Having a damaged frigate makes it easier to track the spawn
-When hold is full, get to safe spot and deposit in containers. You can have an alt to get to safe spot in an indy and empty cans
-Take everything, as you will earn sometimes more just by reprocessing loots (especially true for frigs)
IMHO, the best thing is to camp a system and clean out belts from everything, as it seems to improve spawn quality over time. I have noticed that many times...I clear belts where only frigs and cruisers are flying, and once all belts are clean, the new spawns contain more cruisers and some BC/destroyers instead of frigs... I use energy weapons, so no trouble with cargo size for ammo. You should also use one or two tractor beams...They rox for looting. Of course this means less weapons, but I have no trouble with that :D Site ICE is coming to EveÖ since 249182 AD Image oversized, please take a look at the forum rules - Laqum |

Align is if you stay static, meaning you are also a easier target for NPCs. I usually set a destination in the autopilot and just hit autopilot if in danger

Long/Close...It's up to you...I'm Amarr and armour tank, so I use almost only pulse.

True..Drones are a must if solo hunting.
Originally by: THE CLONE - Take out the toughest NPCs first (debateable but works for me)
Again...It depends of your startegy and the NPC. I prefer getting rid of scramblers/webifiers first (frigs therefore), and then shooting down the juicy ones :D

Or...Warp to previously created safe spot and cloack (prereq : fitting a cloaking device on one hi slot) Site ICE is coming to EveÖ since 104875 AD Image oversized, please take a look at the forum rules - Laqum |
