Threads,
Run a dxdiag.exe test and look in the result for any reports of problems. This program checks your directx features and is distributed with directx.
You can also use the logserver as described in the Patch review forum and get a complete logging of your lockup. By looking in that log you might be able to see what the problem is. You can also use this log for support issues.
Good luck! _________________________________________________________

I ran dxdiag this morning before work - no problems. I will run the logserver when I get home.
PS. Setting Audio=0 does not work. Also running the latest winders patches. I hear that one of the hotfixes makes DirectX run poorly or something, but I don't know the validity of this, something like fix #382310.

Suspect is now known.
I reloaded winders 2000 and loaded all patches except the Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and I am able to get past the EULA black screen.
Anyone else have this success?

We have received reports from users about not being able to get to the eula screen after installing a certain windows update. We're not sure what is causing it and what update exactly but doing system restore should fix it in most cases. We know it is a recent update though. /Cheers

Having read some newsgroups about this it seems some people are having problems when applying the IE6 Sp1 together with DirectX 9.0b. _________________________________________________________

I know from the time I was playing Asherons call 2 that there is a bug in one of the service packs. If installing DX9 and then the service pake some DX files are downgraded and that cause the crash.
So install service packs and AFTER that the DX9. Reinstalling DX9 can also fix this.
I will try to find more info about that problem, maybe it is not the same...
