I'm not looking to put them in a spreadsheet and let it do it for me, but the actual averaging formula. I hear people saying how they average the cost of tritanium or whatever and want to get into some small-time production to support my ratting business and stuff, or calculate cost of materials when I've melted down stuff and made something from it.

Edited by: Lily Savage on 03/02/2006 00:21:41 Unless you want to get seriously anal about it, run a batch system - buy enough minerals (or price your refines at the current average market buy price) to make x number of widgets, and sell those widgets at whatever your personal build cost + profit price is.
Having said that, before you invest a lot of time into making stuff, try placing a few mineral sell orders, to see what you can get for just selling your refined loot.

I find the best way, a bit time intesnsive, is to look at the average market price of the loot item. Determine the value of the reprocessed-loot items, current mineral market value x mineral quantity (i know math isn't your fortee, so bear with me ). Then make a decision as to reprocess or sell, if you have enough sell/buy order slots (determined by your trade-based skills). If you do reprocess your loot, look at if you can increase your profit margin by producing an in-demand item with a high market value/mineral value (base value) ratio. Peaceout. Mal

If you don't need the mins from your basic loot, just hoard it. Check the prices of your named items when you have time (during warp, while traveling long distances,...)You easily lose quite an amount of time just checking every single pice you have. If you check them and sell them accordingly, then yes you make more profit on those items but you lose on it all because you could make money during that checking time instead of ratting or running missions. If you only would sell the mins of the reprocessed loot then wait until you get a large amount as local buy prices are generally low unless you are lucky or live in a trade hub (unlucky then eigther way )
