I've gotten these "I expected more of you"- msgs from agents when I didn't activate an offered mission. Is the standing hit the same for not taking an offered mission as for failing an active mission?
Also some of the time-outs on offered missions seem to be buggy. One time an agent explicitly told me I had to accept the mission within 5 hours, then I got the msg that I failed about 3 minutes afterwards...
Thoughts anybody? Tea? Cookies? |

Edited by: Papa Smurf on 29/08/2003 09:11:23 The mission timeout system is driven by the same "deadline manager" that brought us such wonderful bugs as "factory/lab slot rental never times out and isn't billed for", and "skill training is imminent indefinitely". Mission timeout has thus had a tendancy to be rather flaky.
Sadly, the "deadline manager" code looks rather solid every time we walk through it trying to hunt down these bugs. It is however a tad bit on the complex side.
I'm performing some cleanup now related to the upcoming standing changes and scripted mission system. I intend to stop using the "deadline manager" as part of that cleanup, so mission timeouts should start working properly as a result.
"failing offered missions" is a symptom where the agent for some reason thinks you have accepted the mission even though you didn't, and thus "failing offered missions" is the same as "failing accepted missions". I intend to make sure that bug disappears as well with my current cleanup.
Failing a mission has the same standing loss as the standing gain for completing 2.5 missions.

Edited by: Sariana on 29/08/2003 11:59:27 A strange thing about offered missions is also that they are recorded as offered (as can be seen in the journal) before they have been offered..
After finishing a mission the next offered is generated when i click done. Shouldn't this be one window later, when/if I ask for a mission?
As it is now, I can't use the other services the agent offers without being offered a mission as well. |

It should be like that, but a limitation in the current agent "engine" made it impossible. I'd expect that to change in the near future as part of my cleanup.

I have had the same problem with my Noob agent (at dock) who tells me I have failed although have not accepted another mission from her.
most impotantly, I have an agent mission that will not expire. It has been ongoing for 6 weeks. I cannot get another mission from my next level "real" Noob agent1 w/o having this mission end. Regardless of everythnig I have tried, it will not expire/end. Help! Bug report submitted, along with petition.

Okey, I saw this thread and noticed that it was somewhat a little bit old. Now we have got our new patch and I still have this problem. Eventhough I don't accept the mission I get it as a failed mission if it's timebounded. Please do something about this, it's very very annoying.

I keep having problems with my newb agent too. When I complete the first mission (kill 10 drones) I get a reward and the correct stuff happens etc. However, the next day I will receive a timeout message and then when I talk to the agent again he just gives me the 'kill 10 drones' mission again. I'm getting a little tired of killing 10 drones time and time again.

me either, and i have reasonable stats with all the major factions in sinq laison, not to mention a .3 sec status. This accept on docking thing...whatever..seems to happen to some but not to all.

Heheh Not to act like I'm rubbing it in (cuz I'm not, I got my own problems with agents). But I have either 11 or 12 agents right now, 7 or more just from docking...
It happens, but it's luck of the draw really... I have friends who got an agent in the system I currently use as a base, and I can't get her attention. I could use her too... As she gives nice side services ;)
Seriously though, out of all these agents, I have done over 100 missions since release day, and did 52 for one in particular, and even though it's n awesome agent, and even though the agent had great numbers, and even though my faction rocked the house with thier corp or whatever, I was never offered a level 2 agent, just a bevy of poor level 1's...
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the new agent I focus on has me up to 43 missions so far... still nothing.
I am getting the feeling it's so slow because I fail a mission now and then due to circumstances beyond my control, like logging off due to a power outage, or being unable to go to the place I need to go to pick up the VIP's or toursists due to a system being a black hole...
It sucks actually...

This is what i'm fairly sure is a way to get new agents.
Check your faction standing towards the different factions. eg. concord, gallente, guristas.. Find out if u have 2.0 or better towards any of these. If u have, then start scouting for corporations in the area you want to be doing missions in, and look for corporations who belong to a faction that you have 2.0 or better towards.
When u find a corp that fullfils this prereq. u are more than halfway. btw. better get used to playing around with the map, system, and corp info options :)
Now that u have found a suitable corp, start looking at their agents. again there are found under the particular corp's info, a window that closes every time you jump/dock etc. so better be in station when u do this.
Now browse through their agents, looking for lvl 1 agents. choose info on these, and if they have the "accepts on dock" option listed, find out if their location suits you, then fly to their station, dock and there u go. another pain in the ass telling u to tie his shoelaces
